I'm confused

  • MICKEYS SPORTSCARDS is truly one of the best dealers out there. i can't believe that it was their intent to deceive anyone for the sake of a buck. in the past they have actually made efforts to SAVE me a few bucks. just my 2 cents.
  • Mickey,

Now that you have been found out trying to deceive the public, is your next logical step to sell PRO graded cards? image

so it's AOK to use dated population numbers.
I see Mr. Lolich is still being pawned off as a pop. 4 card
(which was true back in October)

well then heck,........... I'm running nothing but pop 1's this week (they all were at one time right image
  • Actually Joe, we were thinking of taking an equity stake in PRO, their business model is much better than any of ours.

DT - eBay doesn't allow edits after the first bid or I would have modified the item first thing yesterday - the pop is labeled "as of 11/11/03" which makes is fairly useless but not necessarily wrong. I explained in an earlier post where those #s come from. You can be sure we will double check the results of our "Pop Engine" in the future.

Thanks to every one else & let's close this out.

    Agreed.

This was never meant to be an inquisition against Mickey's.
some my have missed my heavy handed point here:

I have an issue with pops being understated, irregardless of who or why.

take as an example our card in question:

Say a well known collector whom has a registered set he has just begun but for political reasons has not joined PSA and has no direct access to the latest pop report.

He knows the sharks devour anything less than pop 5 on this set (it might be more like pop 7 now).

He knows Mike is one of the best dealers out there (heck, he even sold me 5k worth of cards last year).
He doesn't question the 1 of 4 claim, and bids accordingly....so does player #2.

  • You then also need to add to your scenario - they also lack a calendar and don't know whether it's March 2004 or November 11, 2003 and they bid based on the Title only and don't read through the description.

We all hate misleading and false ebay items and they make great grist for these boards. Somehow we went in a week from 1952 Topps PSA 10 Mickey Mantles offered for $2000 to a nuance on an outdated statement on a card that most people outside of advanced collectors wouldn't think twice about buying.

I think all would agree your point was well made......several times. image

    Murcer,

I first read your 'little white lies' thread (later edited to current title) right after posting it Monday night. I didn't respond to it, but after reading these 56 or so posts, I have to ask:

    1) Corresponding privately be e-mail was the right thing to do, so why didn't it stay that way?
    2) If you've spent 5K on Mickey's cards, you obviously ought to know him well, and know his reputation. Then you blast him on the boards because of an oversight or disagreement, and this after private correspondence? Like all of us, Mickey's not perfect but I seriously doubt he would intentionally risk his reputation for an 8 Lolich.
    3) I can applaud you for point out things like this, but your punishment doesn't fit the crime in this case. For every situation like this one, there's probably 500 out there on ebay that are 10 times intentionally or unintentionally misleading.
    4) Sounds like we all learned alot here, about the particular cards and just things in general. In a very round-about way, that's a good thing.

Here's an auction that will get your juices going (taken from another thread)..
The seller states in the title the Jordan is a 1/1, and when I checked the pop report viola it was a 1 of 333, thats right 333 PSA-10's of this card, sio this seller is just a tad off...jay
    PSA-10 Jordan 1/1?

    Quality,

Your missing one very important piece of info here. There's only 1 of THAT particular cert # that will ever be available, hence 1/1....

See how it works? Just think, every psa card you have is a 1/1 !!!!!!

    Jay,

I sure hope you tried to contact the seller about his little oversight/misunderstanding
    before you posted that here.
If not, I fear this speaks volumes about your character image

does this seller really deserve to be punished in such a public and brutal fashion?

BUG - This is true, his cert # is the only one available.image

MURCER - Actually, I did contact the seller w/ that info before I posted here. Haven't got a response yet. I didn't unearth this auction it was on the community message board under the "L@@K" thread and Cadillac alerted us all to it.
And I'm not sure if I have lots of character, but I know that I've been called a character on several occasions...jay
