Regarding counterfeit Trade & Seated Dollars...

Remember reading here a while back that a lot of counterfeit Trade & Seated Liberty dollars come out of China. Would some of the knowledgeable forum members please post the diagnostics as to how you can tell if you've got a counterfeit?

Wrong weight,wrong diameter,wrong sound, seam along the edge,wrong type reverse for year.

A lot of the fakes out of the Far East are blatantly counterfeit- crude enough that they wouldn't fool most collectors. However, there are some deceptive ones, too.

The conterfeit ones I have are the wrong weight and wrong diameter....

Typically, Asian counterfeits are 3-4 gr lighter than genuine.. this is because the composition is approx 20% silver and 80% tin........ The "hit" on the shield is a very good PUP, but there are MANY counterfeits sans hit.........
