A little more positivity

I don't post often, but I would be remiss if I didn't thank several members of the board who have recently helped me with my PSA George Brett/Kansas City Royals collection:

RobE, who I snagged a number of sweet 1980 PSA Royals cards off e-Bay. Rob was kind enough to stretch out my payments to allow me save on shipping and to collect enough cash. They are some of the nicer 1980 cards I have seen.

mikeschmidt from whom I purchased a sweet 1975 OPC Brett rookie for a more than fair price. The card was even better than advertised.

Frank Smith who was kind enough to share with me some of his 1978 and 1980 PSA 9 Royals from his last submission for a reasonable price. Really nice cards.

King Kellogg who, as he has done in the past, filled a number of my oddball Brett needs and even had a couple of PSA 10 Brett upgrades for me from his latest submission. Again, all for more than fair prices. King Kellogg has always been a great person to deal with and this was no exception.

And, last but not least, gator05 from whom I snagged some of the best '81s in the world including 10 PSA 10s Kansas City Royals that I think should be 11s. And, he was kind enough to let me pay for the cards in installments.

For the most part, these guys probably could have made more money selling the cards on e-Bay. But, they were generous enough to share them with a fellow board member and Registry participant. For their generosity to a fellow collector, I thought a public thanks is in order. So, thanks guys! And, if I can ever help any of your collecting endeavors, please let me know.

Randy

Congratulations on your set progress and nice post.
In my short time logging in to the forum I don't recall seeing many like this. It will keep me coming back!
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!

    Randy,

I have dealt with each of these guys except Frank Smith and I'll second that. Great experience all around - a bunch of top notch guys to deal with (I'm sure Frank is as well).

    Great post!

Oh yeah, I've been setting aside Brett cards for a while. I have quite a stack of them. Let me know what you need.

No question about it,this is an awesome place to meet some great people.I give my thumbs up to each of the collectors noted,Jeb and Randy included. Not to mention that it's flattering to be named along with the honorable mentions of Marc,Matt & Larry.

It's great to hear from the team or player collectors who are out there.Hopefully someday Randy could have a team set up with some photos so I could say hi to my old cards at a quick glance image God,I miss the Royals Team, that was a pretty nice one.image

Plus it was a small shock that the common 330 AL COWENS PSA 8 1/1 didn't make it's way to your collection.I wonder of the price of it was due to how nice it looks? That's one of those 8s that could have made it's way into a 9 holder as there are none at all.

Anyhow,Randy it's great to deal with you and I'm glad to have contributed to your collection cards you are really happy with.I'm sure everyone else you've given a big upps to feel the same.image

    In the words of MS

    Happy Collecting!

  • A couple quick responses:

JEB-- My top 5 Brett wants in PSA 8 or better: 1976 Topps (I just got a nicely centered 7 back from PSA), 1988 Donruss, 1990 Bowman, 1992 Topps (although I have two at PSA that should at least 8), and 1993 SP (I was the underbidder on the PSA 9 that finished at $50+). After that, I need mostly oddball stuff-- especially those darned discs -- and early 1990s parallel brands like Pinnacle, Studio, Select, etc.

RobE--I simply dropped the ball on the 1980 Cowens PSA 8. After you alerted me to the auction, I put in a moderate opening bid with the intention of checking back and placing a higher bid if need be. Then, I simply spaced it off. I'm still kicking myself. And, in the next couple weeks, I will be asking for 1980 and 1981 Royals team Registry sets so you and gator can at least visit your beautiful cards. image

    Thanks again

Ahhh Randy it's no big thing on the Cowens,I guess.Eventually a 9 will turn up.I just hope it suits the grade assigned. The 8 was absolutely undergraded but I'm sure someday a 9 will be available.

Heh...When things slow down in Brett and Royals cards for you you should persue Ken Brett who we lost late last year to brain cancer. He had a pretty good career and was even good with the bat.image
