The reverse inscription translates as:
1778
240
one
fine
mark
5
What is the significance of the roman numeral?
Was it common in the 18th Century Germanic states to say "one" on coins of higher value in addition to the value indicator?
Did the "fine" perhaps refer to a better metallic content than usual?
Inquiring minds want to know , and you're the one who brought up the subject, so please elucidate. .
CCXL would mean there were 240 Kreuzers to the Thaler. So, a 5 Kreuzer is 1/48 Thaler - a denomination which in fact was popular in the German States.
As far as I know, the Marck originally was a German unit of weight. So my guess here is that the Thaler in question is of universally accepted silver fineness and weight.

I wouldn't dream of correcting such an excellent explanation. I didn't know about the kreuzer/thaler relationship, but it all makes sense.
