2004 Louisianna Purchase Jeffs in the Modern set '65-'03???

I just noticed today that, PCGS has inserted the two new versions of the Jefferson nickel into the Modern Jefferson set 1965-2003. Now, obviously, my question is 'Why??'....but can ANYONE give me a good enough explanation as to why, when we have a precedent set with the Statehood Quarters??? Just look at the Regstry and it is plain to see 'Washington Statehood Quarters 1999-Present'. I would have to imagine that when the Jefferson reverts back to 'an image of Jefferson on the obverse and of Monticello on the reverse'( thanx to that no-good Cantor holding the nickel hostage FOREVER.....) that the Jefferson with the current Monticello (the '38-'03 version) would be a closed series. Thoughts or enlightenments would be appreciated.

Why not leave them in the series for now, like the 1976 bicentenials. Once enough different Jefferson Reverses are out for its own set, or we are sure the reverse won't ever be back to the old one, then end it at 2003, or better yet just end it at one closed set 1938-2003.

This nickel does fit the set just like the bicentenials fit the quarter and half dollar sets. Until both obverse and reverse change, it is still the same old Jefferson nickel. The state quarters, although they do have Washington on the obverse, are a special set consisting of a known quantity of coins (100), and the bust of Washington was modified on the coins, different from 1932-1998 look.

If a new nickel (different bust of Jefferson and different reverse) is coined in 2006, it will be the start of a new series of coins.

    Thanks,

The next question should be what will it do to the % of Full Steps, since it has no steps.

It will look stupid and take away any sense of accomplishment to anyone who actually makes 100% FS's.

I would hope they treat the steps the same way the (now) treat the red rating for cents when 1943 is considered.

As for 2005/2006 and beyond, (is the obverse the same for 2005 a sure thing?) that is another story
