Does anyone know if 1883 Trade dollars were ever counterfeited? This is a Proof only date.

I don't know for sure, but I would say probably. The fact that there were no business strikes makes it more likely that it would be counterfeited.

Yes, the 1883 Trade Dollar was definitely counterfeited. Given the high % on fake Trade Dollars on eBay, I would say that no date is safe.

If it's an 1883-S, you're pretty safe in assuming it's no good!

One way to check the authenticity of a silver dollar like this is to see if the weight and dimensions agree with that in the Red Book.
