Catcher Joe Mauer is going to be the REAL DEAL. It is quite possible that if he continues on the path that he is currently on from his high school days through the minors that he is on his way to Cooperstown. We're talking about a guy that was USA Today High School Player of the Year in baseball & football and an all-state player in basketball. He struck out once in 225 at bats in high school and is batting over .400 prior to yesterday in spring training.
The kicker is that he is mature beyond his years in work ethic, handling pitchers and calling a game. He may not hit 30+ homers but he may be more likely in being the greatest Minnesotan to ever play in the majors (ahead of Molitor, Morris, Winfield). If he can push the Twins over the top, he may be viewed as a savior in being a main reason a new park gets built.
The guy is a legend in Minnesota already. This year the world will see.
