Follow-up on previous thread on ms66 PCGS '72-P Type2 Ike on eBay

Just noticed that the auction ended early saying "the seller ended the auction early because this item is no longer available". Anyone know why? Did someone make him an offer he couldn't refuse? Speculation?

That is strange. Having 2 1972-P, high grade Ike's end early the same day is something you don't see every day! image Someone must have some pretty deep pockets or good leverage. image

My opinion: The seller realized he was about $500 overpriced for an opening bid and gave up. NGC66=PCGS64-65. Thus his coin is worth about $150-250 maybe. I speak from experience on this matter.

But what about the '72-P Type2 PCGS MS66 that ended early? The last time I checked the bid was at $3,000.

Manorcourtman, what kind of experience do you have that indicates NGC grading is that much different from PCGS? About 80 percent of NGC Ikes I have submitted to PCGS for crossover have crossed.

Okay, I confess, it was me I had to have them both. So I offered the one guy my estate in the Caymans for the one and the other guy my yacht in Cape Cod for the other.image

at least the NGC coin looks like a legitimate MS66, at least from the obverse picture he supplied. my hunch is that both coins will be seen again within 6 months.

In NGC census, it shows two MS66 72-P (type 1/type 3 combine) and zero MS66 type 2 72-P.

The one in ebay toady NGC 72-P MS66 indeed is a very nice one provided that photo is not enhanced. I saw the other NGC type 3 MS66 72-P in personal. It is a nice one, as well, with very nice luster. I would say it is right on the line between 65 and 66.

Al, all three of the PCGS graded coins are in the top three sets, with DRG's just added. I am sure this coin will not show up again within 6 months.
