Denominated in dollars? Written in German? Seller in Singapore?

Perhaps SingaporeCoinGuy will see this and help us out.

  • I'd guess they're in Dutch since Sumatra was part of the Netherlands East Indies.

  • This is a plantation token from the former Dutch East Indies now Indonesia, island of Sumatra. There are a bunch of Dutch East Indies plantation tokens coming up for auction this weekend in Singapore and the reserve prices are all above US$50, so $9.90 seems cheap. But there are counterfeits floating around so caveat emptor.
  • The area was a Dutch colony. With this being a private token it must mean that some Germans had plantations out there as well. I have never heard of that before! But it's a cool piece.

  • Is there any good way to tell if it's a counterfeit?
