Anyone dealt with midascoins on ebay?

I'm curious because I just came across one of their auctions. Pretty inaccurate description of this 18-D Lincoln if you ask me. It's at $79 with 7 bids. Coin doesn't look right - possible retoning going on here?

I'm interested in other Lincoln collectors' opinions on the coin and the seller. Thanks!

  • Would PCGS BB this for the rim damage + it doesn't look right.
99.9% is great but I dont like some of his feedback.

Looks odd. I've noticed that on some of their Washingtons in the past as well. They just don't look right.

    Looking for PCGS AU58 Washington's, 32-63.
  • Coppercoins, does this look right?

  • I purchased a few ICG MS70 Modern Gold Commemoratives from them last year (which all crossed to PCGS at MS69) and the transactions went fine. They shipped promptly and I was satisfied with the purchases. I have not, however, purchased any raw coins from them.
  • Currious looking "D". I know little about copper, so it will be interesting to see what other opinions form on this thread.

  • I don't have a problem with the mm, at least from what I can see in the pic. What really bothers me is the color - business strike Lincolns rarely tone like that, they usually go from RD to RB to BN. This one looks like it was dipped and the dip wasn't removed completely and now the coin is retoning un-naturally.

Of course, I could be wrong but the color is a bit "too much" for me.

I am not a specialist in copper like you Mike, but something about that color just isnt right IMO either.

  • Copper tends to get a purplish tone after it has been cleaned. The wheat stalks look too worn to be an AU or MS grade. Definitly cleaned.
  • It wouldn't get slabbed by one of the big three, and the wheat stalks should be full to be in MS grade.

It is very curious looking. As with what others have said the color is all wrong and the "D" is very suspect. This coin lacks full wheats on the reverse and there is a great bet it has been dipped.

It looks like it toned after a cleaning some years ago.

That big chunk out of the rim with keep it out a PCGS/NGC holder

got this from them in a no-problem transaction

haven't bought any raw coins from them, though. They seem average-to-honest in their ebay descriptions. the coin in question, i would pass on.

  • I agree as well, I don't care for the color.

Well I see he has finally got away from private auctions. This guy uses the same PO I do, and his box is on the same wall as mine. Haven't run across him yet, but I am sure sooner or later I will.
