It took me a long time to get a proof IHC, which I always wanted... and of course, couldn't afford, anyway. With the help of Mark Feld and an unnamed person who paid part of the cost, I got this:

PCGS PR68DCAM Accented Hair Kennedy Half. One of only eight graded at that level, with none finer. Pulled from a proof set I bought on eBay through an early auction close.

Still, after having this for 2 years, this is my pride and joy. It`s a MS66 that flirts to be a MS67. image

How about my favorite 6?? I like them all equally and would find it hard to part with any of them. Most amazing to me is the 1864 w/L IHC proof in Aluminum. One of 2 known, NGC P66 Cam.

Man it is really hard to pick just one coin! Any of the coins in my sig line or possibly my icon coin. I guess I would choose this coin which was my first 1877 half dollar pattern and it would be the hardest to part with.

Attached is my second favorite, a 26-s Lincoln graded 64rb, but oh so close to both red and ms65! My favorite (sorry, don't have a pic) is a 1919-s Lincoln Cent, graded 64rd, but probably worthy of an upgrade someday!

trozau: I also love the St. George Slaying the Dragon motif on the British Proof Gold Coinage. I've got several of the Proof 5 Pound coins dated in the mid 1980's which I purchased as gold bullion coins when gold was about $280. They are beautiful large gold coins!! image

I'm still getting the hang of coin photography but I hope
these pictures get across the luster dripping off this little
beauty. I still think the Merc is the most beautiful US coin
    ever made for circulation.

BigGreek: You are doing just fine. That's about as good a photo as you could possibly take of that beautiful Mercury Dime. The luster is exquisite!!!

It also looks alot bigger than my Morgan Dollars image

  • This is the 85 CC pictured in the Wayne Miller book. He told me that it is the deepest mirrored CC Dollar he ever saw. It is difficult to photograph because the mirrors are so deep.

(If that doesn't work please SEE ATTACHMENT

PS: Notice the faint red spot near georges head. I"m pretty sure its a copper spot but not 100%. Many have told me it is and I agree it most likely is image. The spot is more vivid except its faint here cause I took the pic in low resolution. I also did a major mitsake after I took the pic. I put scratchs near the spot to "see if it was plated". It was a dumb mistake. But I learned from and it it's still my favorite coin image

Thanks, the cheek on this is incredibly clean as well. The chatter in the fields in front of Miss Liberty keeps it from going to a higher grade. Here are two other views.

My my my, those are some sweet coins!
I love these threads. I could spend all week at the next Long Beach show and not see half as many wonderful pieces, and I don't have to leave the comfort of home! Cool.
Picking one coin is tough, so I guess for today my icon coin will do.imageimageimage

The 530 gram silver bar was struck with original, canceled dies for a 1884 Morgan silver dollar (obverse and reverse)and a reverse die for a Seated Liberty dime.A gold ingot representing an 1887 Coronet gold $5 half eagle has been inserted into the bar. The gold half eagle was added by soldering an gold ingot into a pocket in the bar, then stamping it. The bar was struck by authentic Carson City dies held in the museum's historical collection.
