I mean like, I can't figure out what it is I'm interested in collecting. I started out with 90% of a PCGS slabbed Morgan collection and sold it. With funds acquired from those sales, I started buying PCGS slabbed gold and Barbers, turned around and sold them. Then, with the monies attained from those sales, I started into a 2 Cent piece collection with circs & proof strikes. Recently, I sold the proofs. Now, I'm bidding on Morgans and a $20 Gold Gaudy... Is this some type of disorder that might be found in the DSM-4 T/R, or, am I being driven, unconsciously, toward become a dealer? It's perplexing to me.

No Tom, this is pretty normal collector stuff. When you find a way to buy coins at 25% of gray/blue sheet and sell them at red book prices then I think you are a candidate to become a dealer. mike

I guess if your selling your `old stuff` and realizing a decent profit then, i,d say your just
a dealer at heart.
Why collect stuff if your just going to turn around and sell it?
To turn a profit ofcourse.......you gots dealer blood in ya boy.

I'd have to agree with Mike. I'm just a novice collector and tend to keep most of my spoils, but continuously looking to find upgrade replacements. Once I've located and identified that upgrade, I sell the lesser grade.
The behavior you describe suggests that you like the thrill of the hunt and profit from the game more than the collecting itself.
Go with what you're instincts tell you!

Naw, you're not whackey. You just haven't found what really "turns you on" yet. I have the same problem, which is why I'm working on four different collections at once. Ain't it fun?

And I know I would LOVE to be a dealer. That just sounds like way too much fun!!!

I've completed several collections only to turn around and sell them to start on new ones.

It's not necessarily the "having", it's the "hunt".

Welp, I profit off few and take, figuratively speaking, a beating on most. This is obviousy not the fortay of a dealer. So, I must be a WHACKED collector... Yes, I agree that the "Hunt" is a rush...

I had the same problem you mention. continually unsatisfied, not able to make up my mind. My solution: A type set. Some of everything. Lots of fun.

to an extent though, it is the hunt.........just like restoring a car. You finish, keep it for a while, then sell it to start again.

I don't sell anything but I did bounce around a bit. I have now settled at type set and proof IHC for the most part. Hey, maybe you were just meant to own coins for a while and pass them on, kinda a dealer/collector hybrid.
