Looking through some of my collection today I discovered I own eight South African Proof Sets. I don't collect proof sets. He is a bad influence.

A 1953 mint set and a few 1960 pieces (¼d, ½d, 3d). Nothing very exciting.

    The SpinakerMan

    Who can take a copper,
    Sprinkle it with blue?
Cover it in chocolate and a miracle or two…
    The SpinakerMan, the SpinakerMan can,
The SpinakerMan can 'cause he mixes it with blue
and makes the proofs look good…

    Who can take a rainbow,
Wrap it in an SA Case?
Soak it in the sun and make the stra'bry lemon coin
    The SpinakerMan? The SpinakerMan can…
The SpinakerMan can 'cause he mixes it with blue
and makes the proofs look good…

    The SpinakerMan makes
    everything he bakes
    Satisfying and delicious.
Talk about your SA Proof wishes.
You can even eat the discs!

    Who can take yesterday,
    Dip it in a dream?
Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream,
The SpinakerMan? The SpinakerMan can, the SpinakerMan can…
The SpinakerMan can 'cause he mixes it with blue
and makes the proofs look good…
And those blue proofs look good
'cause the Spinakerman thinks they should…

"get chur SA candy here kiddies!!"

Giveaway was what I was thinking too!

Wybrit, I never thought I'd live to see the day you actually started buying anything other than straight British coins.

Mac, beautiful prose. Don't you have more important things to do around the rathole???image

I didn't until I saw the pictures here on the site of the SA material. I like.

If I do collect any more of the SA coinage, it will be penny dates 1954-1960, halfpenny date 1961 and farthings 1957- since they didn't make those in the UK. Maybe some 3ds as well.
