Has anybody else noticed that their pictures have gotten much better recently? Kudos to whomever is now doing their imaging. image

Their images have gotten better, but they are overexposing the bright white coins. I just received an 1892-P MS63 PCGS Morgan from them the other day, and I was blown away by it. Much better than their image showed. You can view it in my registry set.

If they can take pictures like that, then why does this $77.5k coin have this photo:

That type of toning is extremely difficult to image.

My guess is the coin looks as it does in the pic. Why do I say that? Because the white of the slab seems to be properly exposed, not gray indicating underexposure, or brilliant white indicating overexposure.

I've noticed the improved pics and was going to say something but was beat to it. Doesn't seem to be all pics though.

How many stars did it get? 5, 5, or 5?

  • I think that besides differences in coin color,
the clear PCGS slab and the white NGC slab
require different lighting and exposure settings.

When something is selling for $77,500, isn't it worth the investment to make sure you can capture that color? It's not impossible--I've done it... but with a digital camera, I think they're still scanning.

Remember, the coin is recessed in the slab--the light doesn't hit the coin as it hits the slab. That said, NGC slabs are the most difficult to capture toning due to how they trap light.

I just check out their web site thru a link they sent me. There's lots of goodies
they picked up in Baltimore. Everyone's right, their photos are alot better recently.

Wish I had a few extra bucks laying around. Like 20-30K.

Lots of goodies, but no 1896-S or 1904-S Morgans in 63. Boo. I can't seem to find either one anywhere.

That 1815 has just a lot too much on the tone but what an outstanding grade on a year with such low mintage and they were mostly fair strikes too.
