Is that Heritage pan/zoom feature really useful, or just a cheap gimmick?

I know some other coin sites use it, as well. Don't get me wrong, I think it's pretty neat. But is it useful?

The close-ups you get are no better that what you would see when viewing close-ups in the standard mode. And the super close views get blurry, just as if you saved and enlarged the standard view.

So what is the point? No big deal, really...I've just been thinking about this (intermittently) for a while, and I'm curious if anyone wondered the same thing as I.

if you give the close up a second to adjust, it sharpens up very well.

Yes, but it just shows little tiny chunks of the bigger picture, which you can view as a whole by turning this silly feature off. It's not like you've really got a coin microscope at your disposal.

    My verdict: Cheesyimage

VERY useful, for checking out aspects such as varieties, checking out otherwise suspicious looking marks, etc. Not foolproof, but a great supplemental capacity.

Very useful for copper. Their copper pics, in general, are so poor, they look like brown/black discs in a slab. Magnifying (and lightening) them bring out the detail.
  • I voted useful. It provides another option.

The thing is, it doesn't provide any more magnification than the large image when viewed as a whole. It's an illusion. The lightening feature can be useful, though, I suppose.

I don't know why this "feature" bugs me. Maybe I should bring it up to my therapistimage

I've never been too impressed with their photography. It is an underrated part of the business - I bet if they really focused on better pics they could up their gross several percentage points (all other things being equal).

I think it does, if you click 2 or 3 times.

It can be annoying sometimes, but overall I like it.

Better than a pic, not as good as in real life.

very useful for most coins on their auction site but it takes a few minutes for the image to focus for my dial up
