I'm tempted to buy something just to neg this guy...

We've discussed this cooker before, but it really burns me he has perfect feedback with more than 650 transactions. Everything he sells is cooked. He is not even good at ATing. It is so bad that apparently no half-way knowledgable collector will buy from him and he continues to receive glowing reviews from newbies and the uninformed. Here is one of his glowing examples: eBay link

Create an account called ThisIsArtificialToning and bid.

To be fair, the board's great majority voted natural on these two, which I own:

I have no great love for people who AT coins. However, is it really worth the aggravation? Sooner or later the wrong person will get burnt and this guy will get some negatives.

Have you noticed that this seller recently changed his user ID, within the last 30 days. Who was he before?

His entry in to the ranks of coin cookers is rather recent, so most of that feedback came from when he was legitimate.

LOL, I can't even snipe ... I just ran up the bid on this poor guy: LINK

Yes, I know, this guy used to be OK. I bought a nice 1962 Washington off him for less than $15 that went PR-68 DCAM at PCGS. He has, however, gone to the dark side...

OK, now I'm all a twitter ... everybody lay off: LINK At least I might have some melt silver to show for it... RATS, outbid again!

I give up. I refuse to bid more than $2: LINK Particularly since it would involve parting with the first dollar I ever made ...

He's hitting a little close to home, Russ...

Bidding just to teach him a lesson, nah, don't bother. He is selling something, people are buying and they seem happy with it. I say just let it go and move on.

It is the beginning and inexperienced collectors who buy this junk and when they learn its true status, regardless of the cost, it turns them off to our hobby to know they were duped or taken advantage of. True collectors watch out for those who do not know better, or at least try to, to further our wonderful pursuit. We all are well served to call attention to garbage sellers and rip-off artists ...

I completely understand but if they buy it and they like it, that's all that really matters. Take a look at some of the feedback he gets, they love the coins they have bought and that's all that matters to them. If you want to leave neg, go for it but people will keep buying from him and liking those ratty colored coins. So you see, that's why I say let it go. I am sure the people buying from him aren't collectors per say, most probably just like the colors.

Also be careful in this respect, If that sellers browses this forum and reads this thread, he will get you back 100 fold to protect his Ebay income.

  • I remember discussing this person's coins on another forum.
I was convinced that his stuff was AT, however others disagreed.
So I emailed the seller and asked him.
He said that he bought his coins from someone else, but he was pretty sure that they were, in fact, AT.

Do it. The hobby will be better for it; the post count will rise. Link.

  • Reported fraud to eBay is habitually left unresolved. If you paid via PayPal, you can reverse the transaction by filing a Buyer Complaint. This typically includes sending the item to PayPal for inspection, which I have done a small number of times with much success. Another course to pursue would be filing a case with SquareTrade, much of what happens there is discussion that eventually leads to settlement agreement(s). My success rate is 12 for 12, including negative feedback removal. Feedback is definitely something to consider, especially for new members. Though unfortunate, most negative feedback is simply retaliation.
