    Yes EOMINT,
I would have to VOTE you are CRAZY!!
But hey, we are ALL a little crazy.
I guess it is........ just to what degree.
If that 72 Ron Reed card gives you 510.00 worth of a charge, who am I to say you might be a little touched.
Either you have way too much disposable income, you really like Ron Reed, or you just like slabbed high grade tough numbers with 9's at the top, either way..... it's all COOL!!
    PARTY ON!!

neither he now has 90% of a 1972 topps set in 9/10 condition! yes that means he is 72 cards away from an all mint 72 set. mark this day down in your calender and lets see how long it takes to get that last 10%? i will guess febuary 05 will be the completion day, so send in the paul schaal in action cards get a 9 and get a grand!

Money is your ticket to freedom.
  • eric- your not crazy, your on a mission!!

when i saw how high the auction went, i found it suprising that PSUINNYC or frank hadn't even bid on it!

i've seen TEDDYHOOSEVELT showing up on alot of the big 72's lately.

nice card, looks like a high end 9 , enjoy!

    EO,

Congrats - Just shot a note to Mike Castaldi showing him the Reed! And my snipe never went in because my $305 was exceeded before the time came. But hey! Its only a 1 of 3 in a set that has almost 8000 PSA 9 graded so far. Its also the last card in the set!

Oh... and make no mistake... it will cost more than $1000 for a 72 Topps Paul Schaal In Action in PSA 9... I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't have guys who didn't collect the set blasting in ridiculous bids because the card has received so much press on the forum.

    Highend,

Don't forget that EO's bids are different because he is filling holes. My bid was to upgrade an 8. I can wait till another one comes around. And you're right... Teddyhoosevelt has been making some nice progress on highend 72 cards. He's beaten me on a number of PSA 10's lately too. But, I'm in this set for the long haul. If I rose to the challenge of everybody who started out thinking that they'd win every PSA 9 or 10 that came on eBay - I'd go broke!!!! Besides... most folks decide 200 or 300 cards into the set that its A LOT more money than they ever imagined and quietly fade away. SO, I still pick up one, sometimes 2 cards per week. Progress is slow - but it also saves me money right now...

I know that PSUINNYC has one of the other two but I'm not sure where the third one is.

I'll be opening a lot of wax in search of that Schall IA...

    EO,

When you open the wax - do us a favor and post the results on the board. The submission results will be great - but I'm talking about the SUBMITABLE results as well. (i.e. opened 10 - 1972 wax packs - 100 cards total - 46 cards off-center, 5 with wax on back - 49 worth submitting.)

Not too many people open up wax this old these days and we all have memories as a kid of every card being perfectly centered with 4 pack fresh corners!!!

    Keep us posted!

    you are an optimist.

    50% submittable WOW.image

I had a stretch where I opened about 10 packs (all gai or from boxes) across all series and i got 5 submittable cards. that hurt. I think I have 2 second series packs left so I'll open them up for you guys and see if my luck has changedimage

i saw a guy bid up to 150 for a psa 7 eddie robinson recently....a month later i picked up a better looking 7 for 50 bucks...then the other day i saw a raw ex-mt+ version in a card store for 8 bucks!!!! i bought it...maybe i can get it graded a 6 and resell the 7. LOL

    we ARe ALL CrAzY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • fb- my plan was to submit all the raw stuff i had and then take a steady approach on picking up 8's & 9's. i can't say that i'm discouraged at this point but when i see certain names show up on an auction i consider it a kiss of death. i put a bid on the PSA 9 543 duane josephson card that XPSAGRADER had up lastnight i saw that i was outbid by PSUINNYC and didn't even give a second thought to bidding again. i really didn't want or need the card THAT badly (i still need too many others at this point) so it wasn't the end of the world. what i do wonder about is that ,what if i did? how much is too much to bid?

by waiting for the next one you will usually get it for less, but i know that i'll be at a point when i CAN'T wait. if a PSA 8 grote came up next week i know i wouldn't wait, is 500 bucks too much to pay for a card that just doesn't come around too often? it seems like there is always a new high roller in the set willing to pay more. conceeding defeat on the 9's is fine with me because i'm going for 8 or better, but my heart goes out to guys like yourself and eric where anything less than a 9 is unacceptable .

having said that i take solace in the thought that i got my reed and schaal IA (both 8's) for literally pennies over grading cost and the challenge of an 8 or better set is fine with me and watching the giants go at it for the big cards keep me interested. GOOD LUCK GUYS!!
