Airport Security & Traveling with Coins, Gold & silver Bars, etc...

For those planning to attend the Spring Coin Show, the ANA National Money Show and Auction here in Portland (or other shows around the country and fliing by air). If you have any part of your collection in your carry-on luggage and it goes thru the X-Ray at the check point, coins show up as a dark mass, and TSA may want to search your bag(s). Ask for a Private Screening. This way the contents are not layed out for All to see. Myself, I live here in Portland and am attending the shows, and will try to attend the Auction so to experence my 1st.

That was my plan, but I wasn't stopped image

Also, keep the bag(s) locked at all times, and always attached to you... the last thing you want is it being destroyed by security thinking it could have a bomb.

If you don't want to be questioned publicly at the x-ray machine call ahead and request the private screening. Explain that you will be carrying valuables and that you would rather not be publicly questioned about them. When you arrive at the airport to check in tell them you called ahead for a private screening and they should be able to handle it discretely without drawing a lot of attention to you.
