No, I don't believe they should be taken off or banned, but out of courtesy, I think that people posting to the BS&T board with an item that is listed on Ebay, should state as such in the title. I would like to see this come to pass as much as we have the "gentlemen's agreement" not to try to sell coins on the US coin forum.

Of course, that would give Cameron more work as he'd need to reply to so many of the messages on the BS&T board that don't conform!!
  • I'm with lanlord.
  • I like to see what coin forum members are offering on eBay. If there are too many eBay threads on the B/S/T forum perhaps we could use a new forum, B/S/T for local stuff, and an eBay forum for links to auctions?

I agree with Carl. I like going to ebay and having the same opportunity to buy and when its a forum member you feel a little more secure. Also if you think a coin is only worth so much you can bid that amount and not make anybody mad by offering a price they may think is to low. Most auctions start at a low price and let the bidders see how much they will give.

    Just my 2 cents.

I think ebay should absolutely be allowed on the BST. It would however be nice if they had a seperate folder for it, but as long as ebay is in the title, everything is dandy.

I'm with LanLord on this one.

Here my take on Ebay links on the B/S/T board.

    1) I like the idea of a link in your signature line. 9 times out of 10 I click on your link to see what you have for sale because I usually know what you collect and usually that is what's for sale. For example, I'm a Lincoln collector; so far, I've sold mostly Lincolns. Many people know I collect/buy/upgrade/sell Lincolns.

    2) If the B/S/T forum does not change, then I think common courteous to fellow forum members should be to put EBAY in the title and maybe a brief description, something like. "Just listed, MS67RD Lincolns on Ebay" or "3 days left on these MS67RD Lincolns, link to Ebay here" and finally, "Only a few hours left, last chance on these MS67RD, Lincolns, Ebay link here". It prepares the reader for what is in the thread and does not waste the time of dial uppers.

    3) I think another thread would be to much. If anything could be made, i would suggest an updateable data bank by name such as the link at the bottom of the Main pages "View Member Listing" "Add to member listing" but it could say, "View Member Ebay links" "Add/Update Ebay Member Links". Within this page you would have three things. a) The members name (Linked to his/her E-mail) b) A brief description to the overall Ebay items (Linked to the main Ebay item page) c) Forum benefits, such as "Free shipping to any forum member" "5% discount to forum members" "Consolidated shipping" "Registry quality stuff" etc.

This way, when I felt like buying and looking for a deal, helping out a fellow forum member etc. I know where to go without being bum rushed with ttt threads

    Well that’s my take.

Edited to add: This list of forum member Ebay Id's has already been made, I have the ling with exactly what I stated above. I believe it was built by one of our fellow forum members. It's great, I use it often.

here is a link for those interested. Remember I did not build this, this page was built by a fellow forum member for the use of everyone here on the forum.

I think having eBay links in the BST forum is fine. After all, it is the BUY/SELL/TRADE Forum! I buy a lot off of eBay & as a buyer it gives
me a heads up as to what forum members are selling. I like to do business with the forum members through eBay & have never had
a problem with any of them.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

They are certainly more appropriate in the BST forum than they are in the Registry forum.

I always start an Ebay listing in the BST forum with FA: meaning For Auction. SO those that aren't interested in auctions, know right up front. Simple?

I think the b/s/t forum should be nuked Period if it continues to be as crappy as it has been with all the "for sale" ebay items and people monopolizing the front page and all the "NON" for sale posts such as website updates, etc. If it isn't a Coin/Coin related item for sale, auction, or trade, then it should not be posted.

I agree with many of the comments here about ebay. If I want to shop ebay I go to ebay but I don't mind an ebay listing on the b/s/t board so long as I don't open a thread titled "FOR SALE.................." and find that it's an ebay auction.

I think an ebay link in your signature is ok or the or a seperate folder. you all know that is the only many of the ebay sellers post. they aren't real member that would even take the time to read a post like this. not like you guys that use CU in the way it was met to be used. not for some want to be 1/2 arss coin deal selling out of his basement and only using for a free link.

I voted YES, if I want ot shop on ebay, I'll go to ebay. If I want to shop on BST, I would want to go to BST.

No they should not be allowed in the BST Forum, you can already find them in the Registry Forum. One forum is enough.

I updated my post above, please see the Link within that post image

    Thanks,

  • I'm really surprised at all the no votes. I voted yes, but I will concede as long as the subject line on BST has FA or ebay or some other identifier that it's an auction and not direct dealing with a board member.

The WORST violators are those that say they're selling something, and then you get a link to an auction.

  • They need their own forum.

I have stopped visiting the B/S/T forum because of having to weed through too many misleading threads or the front page being all taken up with eBay threads. image
