For those who have already responded to the pre-press sale, I appreciate all the support. I am nearing completion of the content of the book, and it will go off to the printers on time for the April 25th publication deadline.
I have posted here this evening to share some of the book with those of you who cannot wait to see a bit of it - to get a taste. I finished the cover art over a week ago and it's at the printers now. I also created a PDF file sampling some of the pages of the book. Included in this document are the cover page for the early Lincolns, the overview of early Lincolns, and the content with images for 1909. Click this link to visit that file. The images have been resampled at a lower DPI than the print to save space for better viewing on the web...the photos in the actual book will have higher DPI and will be much clearer than what you see in the PDF file.
Have fun!

Another update - as of 21 March I have completed 174 pages of the book, and it looks like it is going to be quite a bit larger than I had originally estimated. I had first estimated between 200 and 210 pages as I had it mapped out, but the information and photos just wouldn't fit! Everything I wanted to cover was just too much to get inside a 200 page book - I hadn't realized how large the photos were going to end up being to show all the details I needed to show. This book is going to be almost an inch thick!
My only choice at this point is to go ahead and make it the 250-275 pages it will end up being with all the information I wanted to cover and raise the cover price to $17.95 in order to pay the costs of the extra paper and for a larger binding coil - HOWEVER - anyone who gets in on the pre-press order deal still gets it at the price advertised - $15.95. As of the first of April that price will increase to the amended cover price plus $4 packing and shipping. I am still expecting shipment of the pre-order books by the 20th of April.
Believe me folks, the people I have shown this book to (local dealer, the printer, my wife, my mother and two editors) all say the content and photos are fantastic and that even selling it at $17.95 is way too cheap! This is all my guts spilled about the series in a nutshell, and I am keeping the content interesting enough for general coin collectors to go through rolls of wheats they had in the closet AND still interesting enough that the Lincoln cent specialist may learn a thing or two. Everyone I have talked to in detail about the book says it's going to be a hit because of the way the information is presented and the quality of photos in the book.
I'm really not trying to push this over on people - if you think you'll like it, order it now. If you want to wait until you can see someone else's, order it after you see a copy of it. It will still be well worth the money even then. If it's not on your palate to read about Lincolns, by all means skip it - I understand. I would, however, suggest it for dealers to have around the shop, and for dealers who want to sell a useful book to collectors even if they don't collect Lincolns or care about them personally.
To avoid sounding like a bore and a used car salesman (nothing against used car salesmen) this will be my final update. I will let the book itself speak to you in about a month.
edited to add: In order to qualify for the discounted $15.95 price, orders must be postmarked on or before the first of April, 2004. That's the only way I can be fair to those who want it at that price because I had offered it, and to be fair to my own wallet because the cost of producing the book has risen and I am self-publishing it, meaning all the cost is coming out of pocket for what isn't covered in orders.
