Why did this 68 psa 8 Kaline go for over $100?

I am just starting a 1968 topps psa 8 set,,, I was surprised to see this card on ebay reaching bids of over $100 before the last 30 mins of the auction, maybe someone could fill me in,, the centering is great but should it go for that much??
thanks

  • Sounds too high to me - I would wait for another one. 68's aren't that difficult to find in high grade compared to other 60's baseball cards.

    $117 seems out of whack... I'm not aware of this card being in short supply in high grade.

    Kevin;

    There are 115 PSA 8s out there... I guess that means a buck in value for each one! That price doesn't make a whole lotta sense. Someone had to have that card right now I guess!
  • You must be right about that,, lol,, a dollar for each registered pop number,, it really caught me off guard, seeing that card reach that bid,, unbelievable.
    thanks for the reply

    The Kaline in the 68 set is the most sought after tiger in that set. On top of the fact that the 68 Tigers are popular that is what drove the price up. Is it high yea maybe a little but it certainly does not surprize me. The last I loooked the Cash in 9 was over 400 and the 4th or 5th Mac in 9 was over 500. The tigers get multiple bids every time and have since I started my set 4 years ago. They just flat out bring a premium and have since I started collecting in 1975.

    Al Kaline -- He was the battery dude, right? I think every time that they run those ads with the bunny, you see a corresponding spike in the price of his cards.

    probably as simple as 2 bidders each wanted the card regardless of the cost.
    (didja see the 1967 Demeter that went over a thousand...or was that an extra "1" entered
    by one guy and an outrageous "no one will beat this bid" by another?

    Say..how did you get that 68 Cash card up as your own logo? He was my favorite Tiger
    but I'm stuck with this Tigers ball as my logo.

    1967and 1973 Topps baseball wantlists (any condition) welcome. Once had the #14 ATF 1967 set. Yet another collector like skylaneflyer, gimel1 who made it to the completion of 1967 only to need the money more than the company of 609 close friends.
    Looking for oddball Norm Cash and Cleon Jones stuff, and 1956 team cards
