Are you working on two or more sets of coins?

MrEurekaMrEureka Posts: 24,252 ✭✭✭✭✭
Which are your two favorite sets? If you had to sell one of those two, which would it be? Why?

My two favorite projects are from the Darkside. One collection will contain 100 coins when complete, the other 3000. Both are very difficult and lifetime projects. If I had to sell one of the two, it would be the smaller set because purchases are too few and far between to keep me entertained.

Say Andy, what are the two darkside sets, just out of curiosity?

    We ARE watching you.

  • Seated dimes and bust half dollars.

I'd sell the half dollars first.
    Go well.
  • It`s a Slooooow process but, working on a Peace and Ike set. Between the two, it would be the Peace set as my tastes are a little better and my eye is getting a little better. Some of the ones I have now are just, well just dogs and too impatient to wait for a better one to come along at the time. But I`m still motivated to see it complete and upgrade as time goes by.

Colorfully toned silver Rosy's and the lowest possiblegraded US type set 1792-1964 (av grade = 2.65 at 50% complete). Be tough topick one as both are sooooooo different...

all my stuff is "on hold" right now but I'm working on 6 different sets. By far my favorite is the peace dollar for its beauty and simplicity and size.

Conder tokens, and slab varieties. If I HAD to drop one of them it would probably be the Conder tokens. (I can always rebuild a nice Conder token set but the Slab collection is a working reference set that I really need to refer to and which I probably could not reproduce.) I'm glad those are my two major working sets right now or I would have to include my large cent collection and I REALLY would not want to sell that one. I KNOW I can't replace it.

Lincoln cents and Buffaol nickels. If I had to sell one of my sets, it would probably by my Lincolns though I have several low pop dates that would be VERY difficult to find again.

Im doing a US type set from 1800-2004 (later to include 1700's) In a transitional fashion. For example, where a coin had a slight design change in one year, I am capturing both from that year. (type one and type two buffalo's from 1913 for example.)

This started out to be a fun somewhat easy circulated low grade project to keep me busy inbetween the purchase of Peace Dollars (date and mintmark), but i quickly switched the two. Now peace dollars are getting sold so I can upgrade my set.

I do Type sets and proof IHC's. I have fallen in love with all proofs from early 20th and 19th centuries but I can use those for type.

  • US Type Set, US Half Cents, US Large Cents, "Architectural" British Conder Tokens. If I had to sell all but one set, I'd keep the US Type Set. If I got to keep two sets, I'd also keep the US Half Cents. But, tough decision all around.

Hmm... Do you count Small Cents as one set, two, three, or four (F.E., IHC, Wheat, Memorial)? I guess I'm working on about 12 different series, but consider it as two sets... 1 the set of small cents, 2 the set of all US coins post 1934. If forcced to sell, I would sell all the coins 1934-1958 first, then the IHC, and easier date early Lincolns. The key date Lincolns would hopefully be kept, and the post 1958 coins (which may not be worth a lot now, but sure are tough to find in high grades sometimes!).
