Kevin B stikes again! Granted, it's only $7,000 out the window if the buyer actually follows through with the transaction (and his feedback makes me think he may not).
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • Most likely. Those cards are condition sensitive, right? He submitted cards to PSA and GAI, too.

I remember a powerseller under a diff. ebayID was buying left and right RAW spx RCs BB as if he won the lottery right after BB season ended last year. I wouldn't be surprise anymore if that seller put it up in a gem mint slab.

GAI person told me these trimmers use laser to trim the cards. Maybe there's a common trimming factory they go to.

Some PSellers do not to post the grading company serial#s and card serial#s on the auction. One PSeller I checked the BGS# of the card up for auction. It was mixed with I think 70's, 80s (not sure if there's 90's the year but not 2000's) cards almost all of those cards were graded BGS 10 but subgrades were not posted (puzzles me) but the SPXs cards subgrades were posted. I don't get it.

I kind of doubt they'd use lasers. Lasers burn, leaving a brown edge, a la 1996 Topps Laser. That would certainly be spotted, if they were looking.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay
  • If the guys pays my question is - Why would anyone pay that much money for card of a pitcher that has had one good year?
Collecting vintage material, currently working on 1962 topps football set.
  • There's no such thing as a laser that cuts cards, "laser cutting" is just a card industry term. This was discussed in a thread about 6-9 months ago that shouldn't be too hard to find with the keyword laser. If James Bond were in the card trimming business, maybe, but I wouldn't give Burge and Koenig that much credit.

I'm with you on this one - I wanted to purchase a laser in my office and they run from 40-60K - and they creat heat when they cut - thereby requiring water - it's hard to see how this would work in cutting cardboard - not to say anything of the investment.

7000$ for 1 card if the laser thing works they have to laser trim 10 to make money on the machine!!! So if they have the money and it worked it would be a profit deal for a scumbag!! sooner or later Feds will be on to this stuff and something serious will happen. Taking people for 7k$ a pop will hit the media sooner than later.
  • You can believe they have state-of-the-art cutting tools....disgusting !

Jason. I heard you met my buddy Ricardo (Azcatsfan on this board, Ricardo Fetterman on BGS)...nice guy !

This card trimming stuff is getting rigoddamdiculous isn't it?
  • I've been always hearing about this "laser cutting" for trimming cards but have always wondered where would you find a type of laser machine that could do this job? (are frickin lasers expensive?) Well I did a search on Ebay and found a machine (I've emailed the seller to confirm if it could in fact cut card type material accurately. His asking price was $3600US....now factor in a Prior card at $7100US and you have already paid for the machine in one shot...with plenty of profit!

If BGS can't pick off this trimming trend you think other people won't start doing this? It's also going to get tougher with new cards (they don't have chipping or rough edges like old cards).

    Frickin laser beam auction

Wow, interesting link vincecarder! No matter how they're doing it (and getting away with it), how is it that more people aren't aware? Why aren't BGS graded cards sinking like the stones that they are to the bottom of the card pile?

By the way, thanks KMS, BeachBum, and everyone else for keeping us updated on this issue...

Hey guys! Check out Ebay item # 2794635405. If someone is nice enough to create a link, I would appreciate that. I have no idea.

Here is another one from Shoeless Joe Jackson. Well, I hate to say it to all of you PSA fans, but if you believe this guy is trimming cards to get GEM MINT grades, then PSA must be guilty also, huh? This card is very condition sensitive and this guy somehow got this grade. I am just as lost as any of you, but here is another example. We can't just say that it's "only his BGS cards" that are trimmed.

If this card was in a BGS holder, we would be all over him again. Let's play fair. I don't trust any of them!! ( yet I still buy some )

7 MVP awards, the single season HR record, career walks record, single season walks record, 700HR/500SB, and two batting titles near 40 years old. How can one argue that those aren't stats of the greatest to ever play the game??? All this and there is still more to come!!!! Bonds:2005 NL MVP. Or are you going to doubt him again?

Ill give it 1-2 more years until the media is all over this like flies on sh$t!! To many people getting ripped for big $$ smells bad for the hobby!

  • I recently bought a PSA 10 from kkoenig75 and I must say that this card is a very weak PSA 10 (chipping on the edges). I will buy some cards from the same issue to measure them up with the one in the holder.

I don't think this is only a BGS issue...these guys are real good and probably can sneak them into any holder (a laser can probably trim really close...)

  • It may be time to call in the Cavalry.....I have a friend who has been tracking Koenig sales & those of another 8-10 Ebay sellers as our damages are the $$$ they are pulling from our auctions.

The evidence is there and greed & stupidity are always the undoing of those that would prey on others.

I think KARMA is gonna bite these guys in a big way....Beckett, specifically, will have a lot to answer for.

I just bought a PSA 10 from shoeless joe, without making the connection from this thread. You can bet I will inspect this card carefully when it arrives...hopefully this one, being PSA, is straight.
