Crossover results suck!

Not pleased at all with my crossovers.

1963 Pride of the NL Mays and Musial Was SGC88 now PSA9pd (This was the best and I was sure an 8)
1967 Rose Was SGC86 now PSA7 (I thought it actually had a shot at a 9, so it is not staying a 7!)
1969 Decal Rose Was BCCG10 now nothing (miscut)
1954 Red Heart Hank Sauer was SGC 92 now PSA 7 (This is nicer than all my other Red Heart 8s save 1)
1954 Red Heart Alvin Dark was SGC 86 now PSA 6

Also got a 1954 Jackie Robinson PSA 4 that was purchased raw and I was hoping a 5.

I doubt any of them except the Robinson will remain in the holders. I am extremely angry right now!
The 63 Pride of the NL is available if anyone is interested.

Hi Luke I understand your frustration but expecting a 9 out of an 86 ? You are probably missing something in your reviews. you may want to pass them buy a dealer if you attend a show with any psa dealers or have a card shop with a good eye just to see what they are picking up that you are missing

Thanks for the advice on asking other opinions. I agree the more eyes on a card the better, but I have graded about 700 plus and I think I have a decent eye. I often miss a percentage, but in this case I was 6 for 6 failure. I didn't expect a 9 on the 67 Rose, I expected an 8 and I thought I had a shot at a 9.

I did crack them out before sending in, and I probably will again. I am just frustrated on the Red Hearts especially since I have 2 in hand that are graded 8s that are only as good as the one now residing in a 6 holder at best. I basically expected a full grade higher on all. On the 63 a 9pd is not bad, but I was hoping for an 8. And on the miscut, I often fail to understand these as 2 of the 3 previous miscuts I have now sit in PSA 9 slabs.

On my previous sub I had 4 LeBron SI cards that were pulled from BGS 8.5 slabs and were all deemed "not meeting min size requirements." I sent in only 4 of the 30 I have and all 4 got this. The rest of that submission was okay including a couple of 10s on some 80s cards and 6of7 9s on my 1986 Topps cards. As is stated in another thread, it is the consistency that kills me.

  • Resubmit them and get different grades!!
  • i have cracked out a number of SGC cards to cross to PSA and i can tell you that i have had several 86-92 come back PSA 5-6 because they missed wrinkles. sometimes the wrinkles are nearly impossible to see now i look at all sgc cards alot more closely now before and after i crack them out and again right before i send them in.image

I like sgc cards but their criteria is a little different than psa and you need to be careful about comparing apples to oranges. sgc is more lenient on centering but brutal on vintage rough cuts. I am also not sure if they have a minimum size requirement either. I cracked an sgc 84 orr that I thought might be an 8 or at least an even cross to a 7 as it looked that nice, a touch on 1 corner. came back "min size requirement" when I measured the card , it was in fact smaller. also have several 88's that I picked up for peanuts that will not cross on centering. have crossed several cards with rough cuts to the same grade or higher as psa is better at assesing rough cuts relative to the issue imo
  • Thats why I don't crack mine. I have had real good results leaving them in the slabs and sending them in. I think only one or maybe two guys at PSA can look at crossovers so you get a better grader. Also, if you put a minimum grade you'll accept and you don't get it at least you can put it right back on ebay at what you had instead of having to resend it to someone else and hope you get the grade you originally had. I also am always afraid of hurting the card when I crack it. Works for me.
