1984 7-11 Slurpee Discs

I have a question regarding these discs. They're 3-D, and they are circular; the 3-D plastic seems to have a weird cut on most of them due to the plastic being sliced at an angle. Does anyone know what to look for on these items?

  • I have a bunch of these 7-11 coins stashed away in a Seattle garage, but never gave them much thought. Is 1984 the right year? I seem to remember these coming out in the late 70s/early 80s. Did they issue more than one set?

    1983 was a regional with Angels/Dodgers only
    1984 & 1985 were full blown.

There could be other issues but I have all of those because of Carew.

I also have a complete mint set of the 1983 Angels/Dodgers issue with a Promo Poster which
shows all 12 or so coins if anyone is interested.

I'm not real familiar with the 83 angels/dodgers set. Was Reggie Jackson included? If so, could I see a scan of the poster, I would have some interest as I collect Reggie Jackson stuff, especially advertising pieces.

    Thanks

The die cutting was terrible on a lot of them... the edges are often found with small chunks taken out of them. As for grading, they seem to allow for the ruff cut a little, and focus more on centering and no scratches for the high grades.

  • Good info.
I just received an 1985 western region set. I was only interested in the Gwynn. I'll get it graded soon- if anyone else is interested in the others, let me know.

    King:

What years are the disc sets you got?

I was lucky to just receive a PSA 10 on the 1984 Schmidt I sent in - even though I already had one in my collection, I much prefer now being able to say "from my own submission". Still looking for top grade examples in 1985, etc. Have some in at PSA now, but don't think they will 10.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

    Marc... (and all...)

Well... This might take a little time understanding...

I have 7-11 discs as follows...

    baseball:
1984 series K (4 sets), Yount, Murphy, Schmidt, Brett, Murry, Carew, Ryan, Jackson. Henderson.

1984 series H (1 set), Boggs, Ripken, Schmidt, Rice, Seaver, Carlton, Murray, Brett Yount, Winfield, Murphy.

1984 series E (1 set), Rose, Fisk, O. Smith, Yount, Brett, Carter, Murray, Molitor, Murphy, Schmidt.

1985 series JH (1 set), Murry, Brett, Carlton, Rice, Winfield, Boggs, Mattingly, Ripken, Schmidt.

1985 series DH (1 set), Schmidt, Rice, Murphy, Murray, Winfield, Carew, Gwynn, Henderson, Jackson.

1991 series WS (1 set), Brett, Fisk, Griffey jr., Thomas, Trammell, Sandberg, O. Smith.

1992 no series (2 sets), Clemens, Griffey jr., Mattingly, Ripken, Ryan, O. Smith, Sandberg, Thomas, Puckett, Yount, W. Clark, Gwynn, Brett.

    football:
1983, no series, (1 set), Montana, Allen, Harris.

Now... Before everybody starts beatin' down my door....Give me a little time to do some research on these. The guy I bought them from in Chicago was a collector, not a dealer. Claims to have drank all the Slurpees himself (can you say "brain freeze"......ha....) I also bought a pile of Kellogg's sets, small box sets, and lapel pins......... I haven't really looked at them, however, all the items look to be in new condition. This is just a brief description of what is here, and I still need to put an "eyeball" on everything. These ARE discs, and I DO collect discs.....We'll see what pans out...
