I think you mean 50 cents
Anything higher than that is in person.

I thought the USPS had a $25K insurance limit for registered mail. What options are available for shipping higher value coins?
Jadecoin - how did you execute your $60K shipment?

I only wish it sold for that much.

Blade, we used USPS Registered for that package. We have 3rd party insurance for shipping coins.

They do have a $25K limit. I found that out last week when I was sending a package I wanted to insure for more than that. They told me I could either insure it for the $25K and pay $37 to send it or declare its full value and pay more, even though I wouldn't be reimbursed for its full value if it was stolen. When I asked the obvious question of what I would paying the extra money for, the response was, "The post office is charging you for handling a package worth X number of dollars, but is not responsible for it more than $25K." Amazing! I also found out the only way to send anything worth a considerable amount over $25K is to get personal liability insurance.
I'm in Southern California and the buyer was in Las Vegas.
Since he already wired the funds, I was half thinking about driving out there and delivering it in person. The PO got it there OK though.

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't an optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.
My mind reader refuses to charge me....
The extra fee is for added security and they will follow the delivery vehicle with an unmarked car if necessary. If you send a $50,000 item and only declare it as $25 K and don't pay the extra fee and it gets lost you will be SOL and your entire claim will be disallowed on the basis that had they known the true value they would have handled it differently. Therefore they are essentially guaranteeing delivery. I think you need to speak with someone at your post office who knows what they are talking about.

I do have private insurance that covers amounts greater than the USPS, but still have never lost anything.
Registered mail is the safest method of shipping, although it has taken some packages two weeks to arrive.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Back in 1989 the finest known 1873 Doubled LIBERTY Indian Cent, had just been graded by NGC MS65RB. They forgot to put Doubled LIB on the holder so we (Elliot Goldman, when I was with Allstate coin) sent it back. It never made it. How do you value a pop one coin, finest known, just graded and the plate coin on the cover of my first book! Elliot settled for $35K from the insuracne company.
I recently sent a $55K coin to a customer (insured of course) He said the Mailman left it on his front porch! We called his superior had that mailman fired!

I'm not sure I'd want my recently fired mailman to know it was because he left a $55K package on the porch.
