There is alot of grades here that are of MAJOR concern for me, especially the dimes. Roosies are suppose to be my strong suit, and time after time, I am failing to obtain decent grades. I do indeed get a good one now and then, like the 84-D in a 7FB pop=9/1, but most are to me not as good as I would like. The last 6 dimes on this submission, IMHO, should ALL be FB's. I would not have sent them in if otherwise. I picked the 96's to all be MS67's and received 2 out of 4 in that grade. The 96-W I have in an 8FB, and really thought that I could get a 7Fb but no luck.

The other one that is of concern is the 1972 altered surfaces. I pulled that one out of an original bank wrapped roll. How could it have been cleaned? It should have graded at least a MS66. Thought I had a chance at MS67.

Heres another tidbit of info. I bought all those PR Ikes Raw from various places and they were housed in a Dansco album for at least 2 years before I decided to send them in. I never thought that they would grade 68/69...

    Overall I am VERY happy.

Thanks for all of those opinions.

  • The key area on FB clad roosies is right where the fasces meets the field. Often a dime that appears FB at first glance will have the split fade away just where the bands meet the field, and more often than not, the weakness will be on the right side of the fasces.

Note that this is exactly the opposite of Winged Liberty dimes. On mercs, the bands are usually weakest at the highest point (the center) of the crossbands. But on roosies, the weakness typically appears at the edges of the crossbands.

I have had trouble with Roosie grades PLUS the FB's. I either get a decent grade such as the 96-P/D MS67's with no bands, or a MS66 with the FB. By far I am not complaining, I just need more patience and send in more dimes. Most of the dimes I have tend to have the weak spot on the right of the fasces, which you are correct. But those 2 67's were GEM and I do believe that they have FB's. It has been before X-mas since I have seen those, so I will have to look closely at them.
