poor man's DD?

Can someone please explain this poor man double die thing to me, I have one that is just like the Papa Tony one listed on his e-bay site
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11944&item=3902981207
Mine is more doubled than his, as both 55 are doubled and so is most of the Liberty, not real drastic just slightly. How is this different than the regualr DD and what makes one more valuable than the other? Is it worth slabbing? Even licolns head has what I would call a sliding effect... the top of his head seems to have slidden down his face slightly in a southeast direction. LOL that is the only way I could figure out how to explain it. But everything else is great.
As usual all information is greatly appreciated!

Oh and for anyone who read my... HELP on the sticky predicament... I am trying the goo gone today I will let you all know how it works.
Thanks

  • The PMDD is strike doubling hyped for those who cannot obtain or afford the big 55 DDO. They are extremely common. For some more information on doubling check out this page...

Wasn't a 1955 with far less doubling than the popular one writen up in a recent CW? If someone has access to one of these it was toward the back of an issue.
Alright! Who removed the cork from my lunch?

The "real" 1955 DD Lincoln cent is a classic coin because the doubling is very evident with the naked eye. It is a coin that truly exhibits doubling on the lettering and date. There is nothing wrong in getting a so called "poor man's" version. You can see what machine doubling is like. Certainly, don't pay anything more than $1 or $2 for this coin because it is very much available. You may use it as a "filler" until you can afford the real one. Good luck. Steve image
  • try this website coppercoins.com. its a great site for lincoln cents and die varieties.

on the 1955 ddo poorman the doubling on the obverse isnt as dramatic as the true 55 ddo.
  • I would love to see that article in CW, hopefully someone will find it. That would be great!!
