Is it me or are all of the older style $ 20 gone...

I know that the government is replacing them with the new style but I haven't seen ONE in months..... I wonder what 50 consecutive older Unc. $ 20's will bring on ebay......image

  • I cannot remember the last time I saw one of the old 20's.

Also, I have really come to like the new, new 20's. I like the color. I didn't think I would.

Still lots of them in New England. I got $300 from an ATM today, only 4 of the new style $20s.

  • Old twenties as in the big head style from 1996 or the original style? and just to let you know, unless you have a rare block or a special serial number, a Unc. 20 will bring only a small premium over face, even if that. even if they are in consecutive order...they're really not that rare.
  • ok... now THIS... I don't get.... I've seen 2-3 of these..... or THIS.... I've got five 8's in a row once....

note to self..... look at all new currency......
  • Peace,

the high price in the first link can be attributed mostly out of stupidity. Simply put, that bill is not worth that much. this shows the hype graded currency can have, which in alot of cases makes a note go for more than what it's really worth. yes, Third party grading isn't looked upon too highly among collectors. but thats for another thread.

the second link highlights how much people are willing to spend on special serial numbers. as you can see, solid digit bills bring high premiums.

Still lots of them in New England.

I can vouch for that here in Boston. It's about 50-50.

Wait a minute! Just yesterday I got 20 $100 bills, brand new, still in the fed wrapper, all sequential from the bank.

Are you guys telling me they are worth more than $2,000 in that manner?

    Seriously??

Where I live, about 15% of the $20s are the old style.

deadhorse, I don't understand what you are asking.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Yeah, nobody ever gives me those old style $20 Libs (or even the more modern Saints) in change anymore either. What is this world coming to?image

If you are talking about the pre-1996 small head style $20, the answer is no. I can't remember when I last saw one.

A couple days ago I got a whole bunch of the older (new) twenties at the ATM. What I would really like to find is a bunch of the older (old) twenties just to put away. But then I collect just about everything these days.

Put one on eBay and see how much it sells for.
  • I still get plenty of the "older" ones. I spend them first and keep the nice new ones for later. Another case of good money driving out the bad image
  • is it true that the new ones have the chip inside? image
