Hello collecting comrades,
We all know about the Master sets of individual players and how popular they are. besides Hall of Famers, other players remain very popular that people collect such as Mattingly and Rose.
Mattingly is a popular player and I am sure there are some people out there right now trying to complete the Master set in PSA 9 or higher. The rookie card is always on the auction in PSA 9, so it is not hard to get at all. It may not be cheap, but its out there.
The 1986 Topps is a difficult card to find in PSA 9, and sells for $ $ $. If you can determine that your 1986 Topps Mattingly can get a PSA 10, then you have a good shot of it being at least a PSA 9. If you have good eyes, take a look at those 80's cards again. I wonder if Boggs, Ripken, and Henderson will command similar prices (I have to check on that to be sure).

I know you collect Boggs. Are you trying to complete the Master set? If so, what grade? I assume a 1985 Donruss Boggs must go for big bucks too if it gets a PSA 9. Is it just me, or is there some money to be made by looking for mint cards of Henderson, Mattingly, Ripken, Boggs, Gwynn, Clemens and Sandberg?

For low pop cards you can make a few bucks not a killing. I think I paid 12.00 for my 1985 DR 9. My most exspensive 9's were my 85 and 86 topps. BTW a 4th ps 9 Boggs was recently graded ( who has it?) I have over 50 Wade Boggs psa I will be selling and will take a big loss on them all. SO failry low pop..I.E 1985 Fleer PSA 9 I will be luck to get 10 .00 for it. There is just a hand ful of years that will make you a few dollars. TO be honest bigger names. Boggs isnt very popular, at least for buyers.
I want my master set rating at 9.25 I wil except a few 8's but I want 9's and 25% of the set in 10's.
My Basic I want all 9's and 10's 50% in PSA 10 form....then I might stop

It could be me...I sent in one, and some of my 86s have hit the pop report (I think). For example, I sent in two Trammells, and lo and behold, there are two 8s that just popped up So that might me mine. I'll let you know

Do you really think you can find a raw 1983 Topps Boggs card at a dealer table anymore that looks like it would grade a PSA 9/10? I think any of those cards are taken off the market and submitted. I think only inferior raw Boggs cards are on the tables. I am confident in my ability to grade cards and would love to rummage shows for mint Boggs rookies at $20 each and then turn around and submit them to PSA and sell some for $40-70. I doubt that can be done anymore. However, spotting a mint 1986 Topps Mattingly or Boggs might still be realistic, since some dealers might not bother with those cards. Am I right in this assumption?
Finding 1986 Topps worthy of a PSA 9/10 can make the hobby fun for me again. I just love to rummage in rows of cards looking for that GEM.

Yes you could find a few 9's and yes some 10's. But you will end up with a bunch of 8's and probly wont make much unless you can hit a few 10's. But the odds arent in your favour. And if you find 86's once again you are behind the 8 ball. More 8's have been graded then 9's about 5 to 1. And you wont make much money there unless you strike a 10. BTW I will pay Very well for a 10.I have 300 or so 1986's and submitted 2 of them and recieved 8's. But there is always the "luck factor" On Modern cards the key seems to be very low pop card in very high grade and them only the toughest issues will bring a decent buck.
I have a few Boggs cards listed on ebay . And most wont even sell.
