77 cloth in PSA 9+ is done.

Unfortunately I was not the first one to do so. There are 3 that are done now.

Finally completed this set in PSA 9 or better and all but 5 or 6 were my own submissions. 12-10s, and hopefully not done yet. Since this is a 55 card set it was relatively easy to put together in comparison to the big boys, but there are still some tough cards. Even having done this I am well behind first who is up to 9.61 rating. I will not give up and if anyone is looking for raw ones, I have around 20-30 of each.

Luke's 77 Cloth

Also due to the size of the set, it fits perfectly in one of the larger Pennzoni display cases. If anyone can tell me how I will post an of the complete set in this thread. I do have photos of some of the individual cards on the registry page.
Looking for 77 cloth 9s and 10s.

Great job on a nice little set!

I've often toyed with this one as the one set Post-75 that I might someday do. But, there are so many others that I'm working on that this one will have to wait!

    Again CONGRATS!!!!!!!

Thank you for the kind words. I guess I was looking for a pat on the back and I go it. I also was hoping to stir up a little conversation on this set. For example I am aware that on the backs of these cards they have either one or two stars by the copyright logo and I do not know why that is. Every card seems to have both varieties and I cannot discern if one is more scarce than the other. On some cards I have 2-1 ratio one way and on others the opposite. Any history would be appreciated.

    Jeb,
I will get you that picture shortly.

    Robert,
    As for what's next;
    1. I will keep upgrading this set until I retake my top spot. John will be tough to catch, but where there is a will there is a way.
    2. I like smaller sets that I can enjoy as a whole easier, so I am already working on the 54 Red Hearts and the 1970 All Stars. I have decided to possibly go after the 1970 Topps Game as well as the 1972 IAs. I like the 70 and 72 sets, so I chose my favorite subsets out of those and work on that.
    3. I am thinking about a football or basketball set that is in the 30-60 card range, but none have really caught my interest as of yet.

    Frank and King,
If you want a set of these I have a complete 2nd set that has 13 8s, and 42 9s. I have a third set that is shy only 3-4 cards. I have a fourth that is missing 10 in 8 or better. I have a fifth and sixth that are well on their way as well. When you have a 55 card set and over 300 of them graded you are forced to start building other sets. Let me know.

    Way to go Luke!

Was there a point where you were stuck at a certain percentage...and had to wait awile before adding cards. At what percentage does one "hit the wall" when it comes to the 1977 Cloths in PSA 9 or better?

  • Congratulations. Very satisfying I imagine (I can only imagine since I have not yet completed a set).

Actually I don't believe I hit a wall because I was pretty content with 8s for quite a while. This set has a few tough cards like any set, such as first and last card, and Jim Hunter was the toughest for me to find. "The wall" is just getting the last 2 cards, so 96.36% is the wall I guess.
