Some Peace dollars seem to have a yellow film

rlawsharlawsha Posts: 1,033 ✭✭✭
I have noticed that a lot of Peace dollars seem to have a yellow cast to them. This seems much more common in Peace dollars than Morgan dollars. The yellow cast is more of a film almost like an oily covering. Is this type of coin a good candidate for dipping? I know, some of you never dip a coin but to those who do, will a dipped Peace dollar come out white under these conditions?

it was the fingerprints that i wanted off the coin, but the yellow or golden came off too.

It looks like the coin was in a holder before the dip, cracked out, dipped, but not resubmitted. Are you going to submit the coin for grading? If you have done that in the past I would be interested to know if a bump up of a point in grade is common.
