The listing fee is just $4.80 - any item listed for $500 and above is $4.80. What he will get hit on is the selling fees.
I would have thought that a private sale to a museum or through a prominent auction house (Mastronet, even) would be the way to sell an item such as this. The fact that he chose eBay makes me think there is some considerable doubt that the image is of Lincoln.
Thanks for the link, Ed - I love looking at the interesting listings on eBay.
I agree, it does not look like Lincoln to me. Also, a seller with 0 feedback from sales (22 from buying) trying to sell a $7 million dollar item? A wasted listing fee....
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
Great comparison Ranch. I agree that the ears, lips and nose are different and that the one on EBAY is not Lincoln. Looks more like Johnny Bench to me!!
<< <i>Even if the item is a legitimate portrait of Lincoln, why would such a portrait be worth $70000 let alone $7 million? >>
Assuming it is Lincoln (and I agree it doesn't look anything like him), think of it as his rookie card. One could argue that Lincoln was a little more important to American history than Honus Wagner.
I doubt it's Abe Lincoln, but the face is strangely familiar...... I think its Basil Rathbone from "the Hound of the Baskervilles"! Hmmmm, 7 million bucks?.....let me check my paypal balance......

Marketers dream: sell 7,000,000 items for $1.00/each.
Study both pictures carefully.

Always looking for 1957 Topps BB in PSA 9!
