Mike: Hi. Have you sent a Restricted Delivery Registered Mail Shipment insured for "x" many thousands of dollars lately? At around $2k insurance it cost around $20. My $25 suggests I am shooting for a wee bit more on this coin

Yeah- it over $20 as I thought, including postage, insurance and restricted delivery. But, if Coingame2000 wins this coin, I will personally hand-deliver it Mike with a 1 pound box of Sees Chocolates to his front door at no charge image

  • Mitch,

I'm just giving you a bad time because it seems that if any of us dealers (myself included) has the audacity to ask for more than $4 or $5 for shipping (which includes postage, handling and insurance) -- somebody on this forum is ready to burn us at the stake for being greedy and trying to profit on the shipping. Heck, I just raised my price on my website from $10 to $15 for shipping on all orders under $1,000, and as usual, I'll lose a few bucks because I ship everything via USPS Registered, Insured with Return Receipt Requested.

    Mike

PS Weren't we supposed to meet for lunch last week at the Chapparosa Grill????????????????????????

Mike: My business spends up to (2) hours at the Post Office every day, including travel. That's 1/4 of a "work week" for one person and, of course, an unrecoupable expense in this biz. In my old business, when I worked for a law firm, there was billing for word processing time, up to 25 cents a page for copies when they cost a nickel at best, $1 page for faxes that cost ten cents per minute to send, even a fee when a brief needed to be worked on a weekend and air conditioning needed to be arranged with the building, meals billed, etc., etc., etc.!! Don't start me off on what my buddies who are physicians charge for either!! image You get the point. Coin dealers are like the "Rodney Dangerfields" of professions unfortunately from what I see. If you are like me, a large % of the packages you ship out are with free shipping to begin with (any board member generally gets free shipping on anything they buy off my sites or via PM)!

PM me Mike if lunch works for you tomorrow at CG. I have some coins to show you.

Mitch, one thing I would suggest regarding your shipping/insurance fees on eBay.
You have the little "blip" of "P/h/i: $25" at he end of your description.
But down under "Shipping and payment details" it states "Shipping insurance: Not offered ".
On the page where these costs are entered when setting up an auction, there is a drop-down window where you are able to choose "insurance included in shipping". When you choose that, it comes out like on any of my auctions.
This may be an insignificant detail, but I wouldn't want someone thinking for one second "Shipping insurance: Not offered".

  • MItch, once again I missed the day that guesses were accepted (and, this time, the three or four days after). Oh well. Craig took care of your list. Thanks Craig.
