I say it slabs to XF40, but I don't care for the color. May be the scan, but it looks unnatural to me.

I complared it with my pcgs xf45 14 barber quarter the leaves had a sharper lines but Liberty on mine is much sharper. they (graders) seem to a little hard on halves but I think it will grade xf

The coin is totally original. The pic was taken with my sony digi cam. I'm still having trouble with lights but the pic turned out ok. A little bright than usual and maybe the combination of the toning and the wear on the face to look a little odd.

VF++, oh so close to EF (and maybe barely makes it)

Al- That's what I thought first because it definitely had that dirty natural toned look on one side and lighter on the other.. but the coin was never cleaned, at least I have verified with three dealers and none have said cleaned in anyway.

I think the coin looks Vf-35 at PCGS.

The photo appears to show it lightly cleaned, but from your comments, this must be the lighting.

  • somewhere between vf30-vf35 but closer to 35. Not 40 for two reasons: banner not close to complete and feathers on rev.

VF-25. I don't like the marks in the field at the right. The market is getting more picky these days and I think the coin would have trouble getting VF35 money.

Because the Liberty band doesn't appear to be complete that precludes the xf grade. I'd give it a VF but a low VF because the horizontal lines on the rev shield are just begining to merg making it close to a FINE.

Very close to XF-40, and would be listed as such on eBay. I grade this one VF-35 since the lower edge of the headband doesn't appear to be all there, and there is noticeable wear on the eagle's feathers. This should slab at least VF-30.

Conclusion: VF-30 when buying, XF-40 when selling.

VF30 to VF35. LIBERTY is complete and strong but lower band line needs to be complete for a XF40. Reverse wing feather tips are nearly complete but lines are very weak. Another thing to note is that for an XF40, usually some hair below the Band will be visible. It shouldn't be all worn smooth and gone. Also notice the two laurel leafs just below the LIBERTY band. Those are usually separate and dinstinct on VF30 and higher and shouldn't have wear making them look merged.

Also the inner rim denticles on XF and higher coins are almost always full and nearly complete, unless the coin was very poorly struck.

Here is a 1912-D that i have graded XF40. Have I shown you this one before? If I have my apologies.

VF30. My first thought was cleaned (lines n the obv), maybe it's the pic.

    Brian,

Its a VF 30. Solid for the grade. (Not a 35.)

Was wondering where you were and stop showing off image.. and yes I too see it as VF30 (if you check the property of the pic..). And yes according to the XF guideline.. you're absolutely right.

Thanks so much for all you opinions.. image
