? about Registry Sets

I made a decision yesterday.I my Registry Set 1936-1942 I had (1) PR67 RD Lincoln.Because of lack of funds,my acquiring any of the others in that lofty grade were slim and none anytime soon.I made a decision to sell the coin and replace it with one that better matched the others.I searched for the best possible speciman(I think it has possible upgrade potential),which I found at Angel Dees table at the Baltimore Coin Show. With the extra cash I was able to start a set that I've long waited to start.the Matte Proof Lincolns.I believe I did the right thing.I ask you fellow Registry owners, what you think ?

Don, I believe you made the right decision. My point on collecting has always been to buy the best coin you can afford. Each of us has their own interpretation of what is affordable to them. Coin collecting is a hobby and should be fun. NEVER allow coin collecting to override normal living at the standards you are used to. In my case, I have collected all the Lincoln proof cents at prices and grades that are affordable for me. I have a great sense of pride in having this set complete. I believe you too will find having all the Matte proof coins eventially very satisfying. You have some very high grade Lincoln proofs in the 1950's. Certainly having the mid-year proofs of 36-42 all in 65 & 66 is also quite an accomplishment. I look forward to seeing you join Doug, Stewart, I and hopefully others at the 100% complete mark for 1909-1958 Lincoln proofs. Good luck. Steveimage

Don I think it is very nice to have a stand out coin within a set. Probably I would have kept the coin. The decision you made is what you wanted to do so a big fat very image is registered with what you did.

Hopefully no remorse will set in later on.

You can guess how I feel about this subject. Even my P Lincolns from the teens and twenties are mostly ms64, allowing me to save money towards the S's in ms64. I think you totally did the right thing.
