Has anyone found a New Nickel without bad rims?

You collectors that have gone through bags of Nickels, what are your thoughts on the rims? To me they look smaller than other Jefferson Nickels, and they seem to be nicked up.

What have you found?

  • I envy those who've had the opertunity to go through bags of new Jeffs, or any examples for that matter. I can't pay anyone enough to bring me any here where I live.
On the other hand, for the many images I've been able to view online, it does appear that either the metal is soft, the strikes are weak, or the bags are ran over by the armoured carriers that transport them, because it apears that many are junk.
What happened to that proud statement "Made in the USA"?
Com'on,.. show me something that'll knock my socks off,.. or at least put it up on the BST forum so I have a chance at what the rest of y'all throw away! image

  • On Friday I got five rolls from the bank. I opened three and looked through them. Most of them seemed to be poorly struck, most of the remainder had nicks or marks in very visible spots in the fields. The few left over seemed to have been rubbed on the obverse right above the designer initials. I'm keeping four and will turn the rest into the credit union. The other two rolls I will keep. Since I'm in Colorado all I've seen are Denver mint marked.

I also noticed the bank rolling machine ate into every end roll coin.

BTW, the bank I got them from usually has halves, they were out and didn't know when they might have more in. image

Talked with Tom DeLorey in Baltimore who was showing the new nickel, he felt that these would show wear very quickly. I guess that is actually a favorable situation for dealers!
  • I've looked through a few rolls, and they were all pretty bad lookng. Not a one worth savingimage

What type of errors. All I found was five coins struck through grease or oil (nothing surprizing).
