A very costly experiment

I have 53 1974 PSA 10's in my 1974 collection. The question is, if I was to break out each of the cards (assuming I didn't damage any of them) and resubmit them as a 53 card submission how many of them do you think would come back as 10's the second time around???
I honestly can't tell the difference between a 10 and a nice 9 but I would be interested in your thoughts. I have a guess in mind but I'll save it for later.

Cracking is NOT an exact science, you would most likely, by even some slight handle / touch instances, alter the slabbed condition.
By the same token, if you cracked and re-sent 53 9s ( high end ) you might get a half dozen or more tens.
Maybe you're coming down with something...LOL...

Send them to me and I will guarantee you will recieve at least 50% 10's the second time around and I will not even charge you for this service. Its a freebie.

BTW Dave, nice buy on my '65 Charlie Smith -- I should have taken the $100 offer!

I've been home sick for the last couple of days - the drugs are playing games with what used to be my brain.
Scott,
$62 isn't too bad for the Smith in a psa 7. The last sale I saw was for $50. Now if it crosses to an 8..............
Dave,
Are you going to resubmit?
My bottom line with my post is how much confidence do we have in psa grading psa 10's? What I mean by that is that I feel they get the grades right the vast majority of the time in regards to 8's and 9's. But when it comes to psa 10's the grades seem to be much more random. Plus if you add to the equation that if you sent in 53 gem mint cards all at once would the grader be less likely to give 10's just because you submitted so many gem mint cards all at once. That was my main question.

DON'T DO IT!
Good question, in my experience sending in all your gems in one shot is usually not a good idea. Reason being you can invent something that will keep it away from a gem it is cardboard remember. I try to keep my subs with a even distribution of 9's and 10 canidates and will never put 2 gems of the same card together usually the results will come back 9,10 or 9,9 with the grader not being able to make the decision or he'll think something could be better.
Now telling the difference between a 9 and a 10. Two types of 10's exist from my deductions.
A) The tech 10 which card is centered nearly perfect with 4 razor corners and clean which you rarely see it get graded a 10 but it does happen or
The registered 10 where the the pixels on the card are perfect in uniform you can tell you just have to know what your actually looking for. Loaded with color and within the parameters of the guidelines. The only way you can usually pick up on this is if you have lots of multiple copies. This is the 10 that psa usually gives out. I will say they do usually get it right. Most of the graders are looking for the same thing but a few graders are hung up in the technical side. So first you need the image then the corners and everthing else follows after that.
Hope this makes sense to you.

Don't worry - I ain't got that kind of money to burn. It's just a what if question.
Gator,
That makes great sense. If anyone knows about having psa 10's graded it's you! A question for you though, if you broke out your 50 best psa 10's and resubmitted them - how many 10's do you think you would get out of that group assuming those were the only cards in your submission???
My point is that I think there is a great deal of randomness in psa 10's which is not the case in psa 9's and 8's. Plus I believe they would knock down grades of worthy cards just because they had too many of them coming in at once. What do you think?

Well hard to say if you have 4 different graders grading the same era your bound to have 4 different results. I myself want psa to have the same graders grading the same years for consistency purposes. With all that said.
The answer to you question if I had to say 50 tens from my collection. I'd bet 45 would come back 10's just for my tens are the type b versions. When you send in 50 cards that are registered your going to raise an eyebrow that this guys serious. BTW You catch the one grader of doom that seems to be lurking around your lookin at 47-9's 2-10's and one 8.
Gator
Also you can add that some of the graders are very fair. I remember one invoice I had in 81's which I literally spent days prescreening 1000 cards in savers. After 3 days I had it down to 100 cards. Out of the 100 I figured 50 to be 10's. The results were 46 10's and 54 9's. I'll try to find the invoice I looked for it last month but couldn't find it. So it does happen now does it happen.
Gator
and I will send you back some that look
