Anyone know the deal with 1954 SI Topps cards?

Looking on Ebay and theres a ton of these going over a hundred dollards graded by pro? I take it PSA doesn't grade these because they need to be cut out? Anyone have more info or collect these?

the only info i can give you regarding these is to stay away from them at the prices you see on ebay. I would buy them (if possible) for whatever star I needed if I could find them cheap. Other then that I'd stay away.
    Good for you.

There was a thread a while back on the Network 54 board about these, guess they were either reprinted much later than 1954, and distributed in the 80's.
Short answer is to stay away from PRO at all costs- they are well known for grading trimmed and doctored cards. If you are interested in these cards I would only consider buying them as part of the complete, 1st issue of Sports Illustrated, and even then only from a very reputable seller. Mastro and a few other of the larger auction houses occasionally have this issue up for bids.

I would have to agree with Griffins , if you want the cards , buy them intact with the 1st SI EDITION .........I got my first computor in 1999 and while hunting for a 1963 Fleer checklist ( the last card I needed raw to complete the set ) I discovered E-Bay ! Anyway , instead of finding the Fleer card , I came across the SI EDITION , JUST LIKE THE ONE bhl2359 provided in the link , bid on it and won my first E-Bay item...........think I won it for less than $150.00........really neat item......has Eddie Mathews on the cover and the binder is really nice..........I've often wondered if Psa would grade these as cards........and weather Registry Player Set collectors would include these in a Master Set ? And yes , I did find my Fleer Checklist......a Psa 6 o/c card.......my first graded card purchase which drew me into collecting slabbed cards and eventually to Psa..........Dave " Robby" Robinson

  • I don't see how all the cards could be printed much later than 1954 if they came out in the book in 1954? I'm sure there are reprint books and such, but an original books cards would be 1954 right?
