You can look now

I still have lots of scanning and data entry to do, but I think it's complete enough to call it ready for prime time. Here's the link to my new website, the Vintage Football Card Gallery. Eventually I plan to include scans of all football cards from 1973 and before.

A bit of information I would like to have for each card is the player's hometown. If you know a player's hometown but it doesn't appear on a card page for the player, please PM or email me, and I'll add it.

Let me know what you think!

Very cool! I'm sure there are lots of people on the boards who would be willing to help fill in the gaps.

I hope so. Once I start adding cards from the 50's, I'll need some help. If I can't afford to collect the cards, at least I can collect the pictures!

    Awesome site, Mike! image
I think it would be cool if you did a football card "hall of fame",
where maybe the collectors can vote on their favorite cards and a
page could be set up honoring the ones picked. Just a suggestion.
I'll definitely be checking your site for updates & more sets.

This is obviously a labor of love and I can't say enough how much I like what you've done - having the same thing with postwar baseball would be an invaluable resource - keep up the outstanding work - I will be watching as I'm attaching it to my favorite list - this is one of the most impressive things I've seen next to JoeStalin's footlong board-banters!

    Great site!

I noticed a correction needed for Bill Brown Minnesota Vikings. His actual college is Illinois, not Syracuse. I believe he went to school with Butkus and it lists that in my Vikes media guide.

Some more school additions for you (I only listed one card, could be other for same players) Source is Vikings media guide:

    1966 Gordon Smith, Missouri
    1965 Bobby Walden, Georgia
1968 Dave Osborn, North Dakota (just like Jim Kleinsasser!)
    1968 Ron Vaderkelen, Wisconsin
1968 Joe Kapp, California (later coached there)
    1968 Gary Cuozzo, Virginia
    1968 Jim Lindsey, Arkansas
    1969 Billy Martin, Georgia Tech
    1970 Gene Washington, Michigan State
    1970 Alan Page, Notre Dame

Once again, great site! I'll be checking out your Vikings cards for sale.

    Enjoy your collection!

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback and offers to help. As you can tell if you browsed the site, I started with the 1960's, and I'm up to 1966. When I finish the 60's, I'll start working back in the 50's. My collection gets sparse before '57, so that's when I'll need the most help.

Erik, thanks for the colleges and the Bill Brown info. It looks as if there were two Bill Browns, so I'll have to think of a way to distinguish between them.

I've thought about doing baseball after this, but considering how long it's taking to do football, baseball will be too much for me to do alone. Perhaps a collaborative effort would work. I'll need a bit of a break, though, to do some things that are much less fun--like fixing the plaster in the bathroom.

Also Mike, I noticed there were no scans for some. I have a '65 Lamonica & while my scanner is not working now, I plan on getting a new one after vacation 3/20-3/27. If you need a scan , holler at me then.

Thanks, Dave. That card is in my safe deposit box--along with some of the other star cards that aren't pictured--so I haven't gotten a scan of it yet. If you send a scan, I can fill the gap quicker.

Terrific site Mike! I especially love the 1960 Topps and 1964 Philly sets.

BTW 1964 Philly #169 does not picture Garland Boyette [Garland was African-American]
1960 Topps #52 does not picture Jim Taylor

    Good for you.

Thanks, Frank! I should hope you like the 1960 Topps and 1964 Philadelphia cards--quite a few of the cards I have pictured from those sets are in your hands now.

Do you know who the Garland Boyette imposter is? I believe the guy on Jim Taylor's card is actually Jim Taylor from the Cardinals--is that correct? (The same person appears on Jim's 1959 "rookie card," which I haven't gotten to yet.) If I know who is actually pictured on the cards, I'll add their names to the notes. Someone also pointed out to me that the person shown on Goose Gonsoulin's 1961 Fleer rookie card isn't Goose Gonsoulin. Anyone recognize him?

You are right about the Taylors, Mike (and Frank). The 1959 #155 and
the 1960 #52 Jim Taylor cards do not show the Packers fullback.
In both years the picture is of Jim Taylor, a linebacker who played
    for the Cardinals.

    edited to add:
If you have a hard time getting scans of cards from the 50's sets, you
might try emailing some of the collectors that have images on their
registry sets. The scans would be done, and all you'd have to do is
crop out the slabs. I'm sure you'd get permission once they see how
much work you've already put into your site.
