CC Morgan question

08HALA2008HALA20 Posts: 3,066 ✭✭✭
I enjoy the CC Morgan dollar but do not have a lot of money to spend. Not interested in getting one graded. Would like to have a cheap one as pocket change or to have as a topic of conversation. My dilemma is this where do I find a cheap one.

My question is What would be a good year and what is a reasonable price I can expect to pay.

  • Look for one on ebay. The 1882-1884 are the common ones. The lower end uncirculated ones are not that much more expensive, relatively speaking, than circulated ones. I'd buy a nice GSA coin, if it were me.

Joe: A GSA CC Morgan in a PCGS slab (with GSA Designation) will be less expensive than in original government large plastic case...

A circulated 1890-CC is a good one and they're easy to find in low grades.

If you don't want to hassle with eBay, this guy has plenty of circulated CCs:

That's about the only one that would qualify as pocket change from a value standpoint. All the others are a little pricey for this purpose.

The 78-CC is pretty cheap... and available... in low grades.
    When in doubt, don't.

    Thanks again everyone,
The GSA's I saw were a little pricey.

I will check out that web sight K6AZ

I decided that I couldn't use an uncirculated coin as pocket change. It is just wrong.

I will pick up a circulated one.

It never ceases to amaze me how forum members are so quick with info, links, pearls of wisdom.

Someone once said this forum is an education in itself. They surely were correct.

I look forward to the day when I will be able to contribute in a similiar fashion as you all do.

    You're welcome Joe.

Aaron (Northern Nevada Coin) is a little on the high side of retail, but he always has a good inventory of Carson City dollars. The last coin I bought from him was my MS63 92-CC. He is quick to ship, and at least as of my last purchase, shipping was included in the price.
