This one takes the cake

So I get an email that I find off the wall.....here is the text of it...

Please retract my bid on this item. My father is now using my account to bid on military insignia and such things. I am considering suicide this weekend and do not wish my father to get stuck with this item. Thank you.

god, I hope thats not some sick joke, cause that's creepy. Of course, I hope the guy isnt serious either, cause that is equally creepy.

My conclusion: that is one damn creepy email.

Thats pretty funny I think cause i,ve considered writing a seller a similar message to try and get out of a
sale i suddenly felt wasnt a good deal. Luckily the seller worked with me on the deal and i didnt get burned too bad anyway.

Not that your item isnt a good deal, it just sounds like a story too hard to argue with.
those make the best stories dont they?

  • I don't understand this.

If he wins the item & commits suicide, his dad wont get stuck with it, you (ScarsdaleCoin) will!

Obviously he doesn't want a bid retraction on his record, "Please retract my bid on this item." He's supposedly going to kill himself, so why would he care?
And what happened with the Baron dude and the feedback?
    Glenn
Edited to add: Man, people will do anything to keep a bid retraction out of their feedback history.
Tell him you will retract his bid when you see a death certificate & see what he writes back.image
  • Yup, that takes the cake. Like PutTogether I too find it very creepy. Whether it is serious or a joke it is still creepy to me.

Joke or no joke it's creepy enough that I'd just quietly retract his bid and then block his account.

I would hold him accountable by forwarding that email to Ebay. Ebay in turn SHOULD take the responsibility of contacting his/her local police department to investigate his/her personal safetyimage

    Ahhh, I think it's cute.
Once, when my daughter ran up my gas charge card, buying gas for all of her friends, I told everyone I was gonna commit suicide, too!
I think he's joking about his father's buying stuff on his account, and it's driving him to suicide. Anyway, they say that those who say that, never do....
  • I'd cancel the bid just for the creativeness of the email. Besides, you don't want someone winning the coin who doesn't want it.

    Very creepy and sad.

I agree with Pat. Just cancel the bid, block him, and hope he gets some help.

"Anyway, they say that those who say that, never do...."

bubblehead, you truly are that. You shouldn't speak of that which you so obviously know nothing about.

  • Ask him to email you on Monday and let you know how he got on...
  • Creepy....................I think I would let it ride. If he is that unstable you probally don't want him bidding any way. Did you make any offers on his collection? It might help pay the funeral expenses. Could you forward his name to us so we can bid early. (JUST KIDDING OF COURSE). I'd let it go. Walt

Weird. I'd cancel the bid, block them, report them to ebay, and then email them a link to a counseling site.

    Jim,
Yes, I am a "bubblehead" and yes, I know nothing of such things, personally.
But, I feel that many of the members are taking this too serious.
I believe it's just his way of joking about his father's bidding practices.
That's my take, and I'll stick with it!

Looking at that guy's feedback, and what he has bid on recently, I would cancel his bid and block him. This guy is going to be nothing but trouble.
