Anybody win anything in the B & M auctions?

I had hoped to pick up a Merc or two, and had the high internet bid last night on the '21-P in 65FB, but someone bumped it up another $100 on the floor. It had a better than average strike, and nice luster. That one sold for $4,140 with the juice. The other one that I really liked was going for strong money in the internet bidding last night, and I dropped out. That was a '25-D Merc in 64FB, and it was a beauty. I guess at least a couple of others liked it even more than I, because it sold for $1,495 (with the juice), versus Greysheet bid/ask of $1000/$1100.

I managed to win an 1860-O half dime in 64. I probably paid too much, but it appears to be a very nice 64.

I may go after some gold tonight, if the prices don't go out of sight.

I was 0 for 3 in session 1, and the one coin in session 2 that I had been high on (by a lot) ever since the bidding opened now shows a final sales price of $0.00. Not a red star that indicates it didn't sell, just all zeros. I've sent an e-mail to them asking if this means they're giving me the coin. image

Just heard back from my buddy Rae in Customer Service; the coin did not meet reserve and they have a glitch in their computer system that showd zeros instead of a red star.
    When in doubt, don't.

I placed bids on 3 seated half dimes...39, 53 no arrows, 63-s and lost all.....it's getting tougher to fill holes for my date&mm set.

    0 for 23.

I was not real agressive but i thought my bid of $33,350 including the juice was a reponsible bid for the 1898 $20 in PCGS MS-67. Not even close. Went for $48,875 including the juice.

The PCGS type price for $20 gold in MS-67 for type III is $37,500. This is a little rarer than the type date of 1904.

    Lost out on a pattern, J 191.

With the ANR auction, lost out on another pattern, J 213.

I forgot what time the Mercs closed for internet bidding. image This made me zero for six seems how no bids were put in.

Talk about a Doofuss, yours truly got the award for this auction. image

    Ken,

Don't feel too bad about forgetting when the internet bidding ended. I stayed up until 1:00 a.m. to get the best shot at the '21-P, and still lost out. At least I think I'll be happy with the Seated half dime.

It seems that none of the Merc collectors here had any success in that auction. When it comes to eye-appealing, better date Mercs, you can plan on them going for 25% over Greysheet bid.

Jim I noticed that some of the semi key dates went for strong money. After looking this morning a thought of Sell, Sell, Sell hit my mind for a moment. The ones that caught my eye were the 20S, 26S, 27s all of which were 64FB coins I believe. The only one that went cheap was the 23S which someone ripped at a very good price IMO.

I will be live at Portland so the Doofuss award should escape me there.

I bid on 5 coins but only won the 1948 MS66 FBL Franklin. I got it at the reserve which was pretty resonable.

Can't wait to see it in person!

    Al,

I didn't know you were selling yours Mercs! Sorry to hear that, but I'll be bidding on a couple of coins. I hope they bring strong money for you. Are you going to concentrate on another series?

I recall now recoiling when I saw the B&M photos on the web, and then again when I received the catalog - needless to say there were many nice coins but the photos where horrible. However now I understand the photos DID match the coins - in this case I mean the Merc's - as they were all mostly sub par (imho), and still realized such strong prices is well great and baffling. I guess there are just that many better Merc's out and there are abit more collectors buying than just you and I , that are looking for better date/grade merc's period.

    nice half dime Jim.
