Is this 1909 S Lincoln have a shot at 66?

That's the question?
Sorry for the lousy pic but I have to work with the camera i have. It's taken through a 5x loop for a close up. The foginess on the upper left is the slab case.

It looks like it is already in a slab. What's it in, a MS65 holder?

    Yes K6,

It's in a green pcgs holder.
I have seen them go for twice as much as I paid recently on Ebay and was wondering if it had a shot to 66.

Yes, looks great and it is carbon spot free. If it had some spots, I'd say no, but this one is really nice.

  • I'm not a Lincoln collector but from the pic I would definately have to agree that it has a shot.... Nice 09-S VDB regardless!image

I see that the bust is pretty clean, which is a biggie. If the fields are just as clean, and if the reverse looks like the obverse, I wouldn't see a problem with it going 66.

Well, it looks awfully nice to me, but then again I'm not the go-to guy for Lincolns. I guess you can roll the dice, I certainly can't see that coming back less than 65RD.

Puff, I wish it was a VDB but it's just a plain old "s"

There's no nicks in the fields on the obv or rev. Shoulders and face(head) are nick free also

The color is a little golden, is that normal for the 09's compared to the later coins where you see more red?

Make certain you check the mintmark for an RPM. If it is one, you could have one of the finest examples known...especially if it's the S/horiz. S.

Well, I can't tell by the photo you posted because of lighting issues, but it really looks like it could be the real deal! I am very hopeful for you!!

Here is the photo of mine that I took for the book I'm writing. Try to compare for yourself since you have the coin in hand.

Looks like a nice 66. image

If it is the s/horizontal S variety, why isn't that stated on the holder???

Could be that nobody looked at it that closely and didn't have it noted on the holder. I have a number of die variety Lincoln cents that came out of slabs that weren't marked with a die number.

I'm afraid there is no way to tell from a pic, especially that one. There is no luster shown on that pic at all. When trying to determine a high grade MS coin, you have to be able to see the luster. That does appear to be the S/ Horizontal S.IMHO There have only been 25 graded MS66 by PCGS with none higher.
