One has a big "P" over Monticello and is silver, the other is just a regular nickel

The type 2 is a "war nickel", 56% Copper, 35% silver & 9% manganese. Nickel was critical to the production of steel, and needed for the war effort.
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • Type 1 will have either no mintmark, or it will have a small "D" just to the right of Montecello.

Type 2 will have a large "P" or a large "S" above Montecello.
