Freakin' Betty Crocker Ran Out Of Common Date Peace Dollars To Cook- Not For The Faint Of Heart

Please link in Ebay 3903009892. Peace Dollar fans won't like this. This nut cooked up a very high grade looking 1928 Peace Dollar. He couldn't find any 22s, 23s or 24s around? Freaking unbelievable! image

...........and perhaps you presume too much in calling this a 1928.

  • Good Point, Keets. So you think he could be multi-talented. Not really like Betty Crocker, more like Martha Stewart!image

OK, I'll bite. What do you mean exactly. It looks like a 1928 to me. image
"Lenin is certainly right. There is no subtler or more severe means of overturning the existing basis of society(destroy capitalism) than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose."

Please explain the reasons you think this is an altered 23.

    Thanks

It doesn't look like an altered 23 to me. It looks like a regular old 23, heavily baked.
  • I'm hoping he's right because I don't want to believe that someone is stupid enough to destroy a coin that is the key date to a series. I don't see any evidence in the pictureimage
  • Saw this days ago... looks like a 23' to me...
  • I hadn't noticed - but it sure looks like a '23 to me as well. Man, that coin does make me wanna puke...

Can someone post a good clear photo of a real 28 to this thread? I don't have one to compare this too.

If that one were real. I'd take a look and dip the crap off.

    TIA

This is what I see if I enlarge the 8. I see a part missing, check the picture and you will see the red circle around that part...

    It's definitely a 1923. Compare:

    imageimage

Real 1923 on the left, real 1928 on the right.

    It's not even a modified 1923 -- it's just misidentified as a 1928.

    Oh, and baked, too.

After posting the above pictures, I emailed the seller in this auction letting him know of the error. The seller did the right thing, and cancelled the auction. I got a very nice email back, too -- rather unusual in this day.

I still think the coin was baked, but at least the seller's a nice baker.
