i think i created a monster....

i took my 7 yr old son to his first coin show last weekend at a local ELKS LODGE. it was pretty crowded when we got there and i took him over to one dealer that ive been doing business with over the last couple of months and he started to look over all the coins in the case. i spotted a pcgs 1955 ddo rb ans asked to see it. gave it to my son and he looked at it through a magnifier and looked at it and looked at it and looked at it. i had to pry it out of his hands. then he spots a 1979-s pcgs prf66 kennedy with a nice cameo and goes nuts over it and thats the first coin he got from his first coin show. RUSS YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD. i picked up a really nice 1972 ddo rb raw and we were both happy.
then we cruised around the show, got some fries and cokes and we are standing there knocking down the fries when they started doing the giveaways. they must have called about 10 ticket numbers and each time they called a number his face got longer and longer and the the last number they called was his. i took him up to where they were handing out the giveaways and what does he get but a beautiful BU 1963 d franklin half. he freaked. LUCY YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD. now this morning he said he cant wait for the coin show this sunday. i asked him what he will be looking for and tells me more kennedys. OH YEA !!!! HE'S HOOKED

  • Wow. I sure wish I could get my kids excited about coins. I invited my 14 year old daughter to go to Long Beach with me and she looked at me like I had lobsters coming out of my ears...

I took my 11 year old daughter to her first show this past weekend. To say she was in awe was an understatement. She too is now hooked.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

  • the weird thing is that i never really pushed my son or my daughter into any one direction. i have always had alot of different interests and i just try to let them experience as many of my interests as possible. both my kids like 60's rock ( led zepplin. hendrix, grand funk railroad etc..) , fishing, going to car shows, my 4 yr old daughter loves trying to play the drum set i picked up last year, the 3 of us built a lionel train layout in the basement and they love it. i guess i want them to have the same kind of childhood i had when i was a kid. my son even helped me a little when i built my 72 ss nova from the ground up. he was 3 yrs old and he knew what a carbuerator was. and now after letting them look at and hold all the coins in my collection they are getting interested in that area . i always want them to experience all the good things in life and not the negative ones. they have the rest of their lives to figure that stuff out.
