This eBay wonder too good to be true??

Is this coin too perfect? Did the seller bust out the touchups on this one?

Check his other photos, they are all "grainy," which serves to minimize any surface imperfections...

That image is kind of grainy. I can tell the coin has mint state details, but as far as exact grade and telling whether or not it has been cleaned is impossible. I've gotten out of buying coins in this price range sight unseen, unless I know the seller.

There's a horizontal slice across the eagle.

I see horizontal hairlines from the "E" in ONE and the "CC" maybe cleaning?

See here bucko! The seller states right there in his auction that the coin has not been cleanedimage

That graininess is often caused by overdoing the sharpening filter.

This coin is an AU coin that has been cleaned.

    Don't make me laugh image

Upon closer inspection the cleaning hairlines go all the way to the other side of the "CC". Doesn't surprise me that someone wanted the "CC" to be bright and clear for people to see LOL

Confirm the return privilege with the seller, save the response e-mail and have at it. If you are confident in your grading skills, then you should have no problem. If you have NO confidence in your grading skills, then you have no business bidding on raw coins on Ebay. Good luck!

    i'm not the digi-pic expert, but isn't it just an over-sharpened digi-pic?

    K S
  • grades choice mint state 64 ( MS 64 ) by NGC grading standard

What exactly does the seller mean by the above statement? Is it slabbed by NGC, or is he implying that he using NGC's grading standards to grade coins? Can one obtain the NGC grading standards? If it is a raw coin, then his wording is deceptive, and probably not by accident.

  • Even if he doesn't touch up the pix, he needs to learn how to grade consistently. Take a look at this one:

It's a terrible picture, but even with that, calling this coin VF should be criminal!!! 3 letters in LIBERTY must be viewable to rate a fine and I can't see a single letter from LIBERTY on this coin.... image
