So How Do You Folks Feel About The "Private Auctions" On The BST?

Ok, we're used to seeing for sale threads on the BST, only to have an ebay link and that's accepted. But more and more these days I'm seeing "For Sale" only to open the thread and say to myself great no ebay auction.
After reading what a person has for "Sale" they ask for offers and say it is an auction. So basically imo they are running a private auction. Now I can understand folks wanting to get the most for their coins.
It just seems most people don't want to put a darn price on the things.
And of course since these are forum members we KNOW we'll get a fair shake when giving our bids that aren't in increments. We are suppose to email or PM our bid to them. Basically the owner of said coins tells us they have a bid for a certain amount. So we know that's fair RIGHT?

Same here, personally I don't believe it should be allowed, it IS the buy, sell, trade board isn't it?

Stman, It really has not been acepted, some people tell the poster that they need to put "Ebay" in the header and others just don't bother to look at the auction.

When I recently sold the last of my 1999 silver sets on Ebay, they fetched $240 each - I was hoping for $200 each.

<< <i>It depends on who is selling/auctioning the coin. I'd trust certain folks because I've dealt with them or they have a good rep. >>
Aha, but they are board members. We're supposed to trust that they are running the private auction fair right? They say to PM or email your bid. I'm sure there would be nothing to worry about the whole thing being fair though. (wink)
Frankly I feel sometimes they might receive more money just putting a price on it.
1. refuse to put EBAY in title
2. refuse to put ebay in title and instead substitute FOR SALE........uh........It's NOT for sale
3. people that continously ignore the unwritten rule of TTT'ing ONCE per day and starting multiple threads at the same time for a couple of coins and TTT them more than 1x/day. Thread titles like BigD uses (for example) are always going to get me to look inside!
4. people that say that a website is updated...........personally I don't understand these threads
5. if it isn't an actual coin/coin book for sale, wanted, auction, make offer, then I think the threads should be removed
Oh, this isn't a B/S/T gripe thread is it?
If someone chooses to list something as you say "private auction" on the bst board I don't have a problem with it. I actually bought a nice coin last week a seller had listed as "make offer". I made an offer and we were 12.00 apart.
I think some of them are worried that they might be asking too much or even too little and want to test the waters to find out.
<< <i>I like the ones on the BST board that require bids to be posted in the thread, I think that was a great idea. >>
Bingo.
I don't trust a person just because they are a board member. There are a lot of board members I have met that I wouldn't trust in the situation you described. There are a lot that I would trust.

<< <i>If you don't want to be exposed for "ripping" coins I can see why you'd shy away! >>
Why would anybody worry about that? Hell, when I rip a coin I want the world to know about it! That's the goal every time out.
