Filling up

I went down to the corner store last night (I like lipton nestea from time to time and time it hit me late) I walk in the fella behind the counter has a magizine open looking at the prices of toys. You know, tranformers, and action figures, etc. So we start talking and I tell him I collect coins. He tells me to stay right there. Comes out from the back with a 2 dollar bill. Its a 1963 looks fairly good considering the age. I tell him I am not much on scripliography so he puts it away and then pulls out a double hand full of change. Heres what he had:

1922 peace dollar with a deep strike probably high XF to AU
Pre 64 silver quarters, mostly sliders 1 was the 32 D but in P01 grade
some mercury dimes

Now here is where it gets good


He reaches in his pocket and pulls out a 5 dollar liberty that was really in rough shape but you could tell what it was. I could not talk him out of it. He told me that a regular who comes in the store a couple times a week has fallen on hard times and had to have gas. He used the coins to pay for his gas.


Now don't that beat all!!!

I love it when I tell people I collect coins and they show me their "stash!" You never know what they are going to show you.

I love to see the coins others collect. I am particuliarly fascinated by teller finds. You would think people would know that a old gold coin would have more value than the face value of the coin. I guess the SACs have the uninitiated fooled.
